My birds free range and find the places that have dry loose dirt still like under the boat, studio deck, lumber storage area, etc. When it is snow covered they will go a while without but as soon as they can they are in any workable soil. If you have to keep yours enclosed then go with whatever they will use and whatever is easiest for you to work with on a consistent basis. With them scratching in the dirt something with high sides would be best to keep the mess enclosed.
A much needed down day yesterday as it was raining all day then attempted to snow in the evening. It didn't leave much which will make my job today a bit easier not having to deal with the wet white. I have the antenna together for the #Meshtastic node but am having to tune it and maybe change out the ground plane lengths... Trying to get it in the 900MHz range.

Yesterday started out so nice and mellow. Then the shit hit the fan, or more so the water flooded the ground. 5 feet of digging, 5 hours, and I got the sheared off frost free removed and the water line capped. We have water in the house again but now I have to rebuild the line so I can get water to the coop and studio. My body is so sore and I'm not even halfway done with the project.

Fuck me this is some horse shit. Frostfree broke at the bottom as I was trying to fill animal waters. Now I am halfway to the bottom of the 5 foot deep hole I have to dig before I can fix it. My back is sore already and I have 2 hrs till dark.

In my typical "late to the game" nature I popped my #Blender cherry yesterday and actually succeeded in very basic editing of an stl file that I then successfully printed out. I know it's basic but it's my first time so am rather stoked.
After a productive appointment with my primary care I spent my afternoon swapping out the bindings on my #skis, going from downhill/touring to telemark. I've finally turned to the darkside and will be relearning how to drop knees in the coming weeks.

I've got the #3dprinter running pretty much nonstop again now that it is repaired and am gathering a solid lineup of stuff to print. I'm far more into useful items over just toys or models and just about everywhere I turn on the farm I'm finding something else to add to the list.
The wood rounds are now in the yard and ready for splitting but they seem to have taken on some water weight while sitting on the hillside. They were damned heavy to load and unload and likely will be a bit too tough for the boys to split. I still have lots to cut up and haul.

I DID IT!!! I BUILT MY ANTENNA AND IT WORKS!
First try, the thing is dead on at 145 MHz. 1.4:1 SWR and I am flabbergasted and insanely happy. The meters on my radio are all pegged now anytime a station is transmitting. It is night and day difference from the disc cone and I felt my grandfather's gentle nudging from beyond as I built it. Pour one out for W6WPG.
MY #3dprinter LIVES!!!!! The head is replaced and it printed perfectly last night. It was a good day yesterday!

I woke up to Akira yesterday morning. At least the solidified form of Akira and thankfully not nearly as devestating. My #3dprinter ate itself over night and lessons were learned. Now I know how the printer head comes apart.
Rather stoked on how my antenna mount is coming together. I will have up to 70 degrees of elevation possible with the YAGI thugh that will have to be done by hand until I make a motor for it. The tower is my big problem now and how to get it mounted.
The logs went for a ride down the hill and some got serious speed up before careening into the fence at the bottom. Today I need to stack them in the wall.

Cold mornings these days as Winter is setting in fully. Yesterday I got my ski wax vises put together and am anxious to give them a try, SUPER nice NOT paying $100 for a set and just printing them out.
I'm mulling over how best to attach the #antenna tower to the chimney top as the masonry on the top likely wouldn't support anchors. I think the cinder blocks of the chimney might but that would require building a platform to attach down the chimney sides. It likely will be my best option as I can bolt the tower hinges to the metal platform...
I'm really blown away by my new headlamp. It's so bright I could easily provide light for a climber on a wall while sitting at the base. $40 and the thing runs on 18650 cells which I have 100s of.
The #3dprinter got the blob of death last night and wonked the thermisotor so today I have my work cut out for me cleaning it up.
