Judging from the comments on his page, it appears that Steven B Harris has died. My deepest sympathies to his friends and family.

I worked with him at 21st Century Medicine, and he always struck me as kind and highly knowledgeable across many disciplines. He--along with Mike Darwin, Brian Wowk, and Greg Fahy--deserves kudos for advancing the state of the art of cryobiological science. (1)

He was one of the few MD's willing to publicly stick up for cryonics research in the face of severe professional ostracism. (2) He also assisted with a number of cryonics cases.

I hope that he was successfully cryopreserved, and that he will someday enjoy much more life thanks to the technology he helped to advance.

Yes, I'm aware of the scope of the loss. But that's a sunk cost. Spending $40 K per year to keep him in a cage won't bring that money back.

Sam Bankman-Fried caused enormous harm, and I, like many others, want him to face justice. But letting him rot in prison seems like a waste. To me, proper justice would involve him making as much restitution to his victims as he can with his remaining life.

He's non-violent, so there's no physical threat that requires locking him away from the rest of society.

Instead, he should be forced to wear an ankle monitor, and allowed to find what jobs he can. In order to incentivize him to work, he should get to keep a percentage of the money he earns above the amount required to monitor him. (The rest should go toward a victim restitution fund.) The more he makes, the higher the percentage of his earnings he gets to keep.
