The way I've always wished this could be implemented is a "Show original" button for edited notes. It is a much more general and productive use case - not only to retract or disavow but also to correct typos, add extra content like pictures, mentions, links to sources, etc.

No, this wouldn't work, it requires a phone and a sim card. I already carry two xD Plus the reason why I need this is because I am not physically in the US. I don't want to deal with roaming and all that crap, or to be restricted to wifi. I just need an app that emulates a valid US number on my existing phone.

At first glance, it's a bit steep for what I really need, which is simply a US phone number. I do not anticipate calling or receiving calls, so unlimited calls are not something I need to pay extra for.
