I live on 14.5 acres in Amish country in Ohio. I have raised chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits & sheep. I’ve planted cherries, hazelnuts, peaches, mulberries, paw paws, apples, pears & nectarines. I garden (badly) but I am learning more every year. I work remotely for a bank as a mortgage underwriter- fingers crossed I am still doing that when you read this. I hunt on my land - have gotten 5 deer since I moved out here. Into everything homesteading.

Got the other half of the file from hell waiting on me at work & I didn’t sleep so hot so that’s a bonus. On the bright side it’s 3 degrees out which means my snow isn’t going anywhere & I get more days to just stare at the beauty of nature

Got the day off from the loan mine today & hubs wanted me to go with him on his 2nd run of Amish commuters so got up & had a regular morning. Snowed hard on us last night. So incredibly beautiful. Bonus pics are off my deck.

Harvesting lambs to reduce hay consumption, so the hay delivery is the last before spring.

After these two lambs, there are still four left to process. Even with savings on processing fees by butchering the lambs here at the homestead. The lambs still have feed costs until they are harvested. The sooner we harvest the less hay we will need until spring. This hay delivery should be the last before the pasture greens back up as long as waste can be reduced.

Trying to reduce hay waste without having to feed a daily hay ration is challenging. We found that wrapping a cattle panel around the large bales of hay drastically reduced waste. However, the cattle panel technique is still wasting too much, so to take things a step further, the bales are placed inside a large hay net in addition to the cattle panel.
