I’d say the average is ~5 years from first commits to wide-spread adoption. Git was introduced in 2005, and didn’t really break out in a big way until 2010-2012. Linux was early 90s, and didn’t really break out until the dot-com era. First web browser, HTTP and HTML was 1990. First real breakout was about 1995.

So if you’re seeing exponential adoption curves <5 years into a new protocol and/or new open source technology, you’re doing pretty great!

I’m a pretty hardcore bitcoiner (have run a node, used multisig, firmly respect thermodynamics, hand out orange pills, etc) but it took me a few months to get on the Nostr train.

One sig roadblock for me: I know private keys are important (from Bitcoin) so I didn’t want to jump on Nostr before I had a better feel of key security. I still don’t feel great about it, but comfortable enough to dip my toes.

After literally starting with Nostr today, I’m already quite impressed. Native ⚡️ payment integration is just incredible. Overall, seems like we’re super-early with this.

Going to be so important to have nostr as this ship goes down.

Is this the equivalent?! But it would be EVERYTHING went up by basically 100% year over year?
