nostr:npub1yy2f70sw4mdqcx6a4ggxt6df46e4cyseyeycxd5sw6jmt0ll60ns6y7vpm I do it daily, and have since 2020. Another reason, and maybe the bigger reason, is because I have issues with neck aches otherwise.

Like—I don't know—someone who spends too much time working at the computer? 🤣

nostr:npub16uchthmwa5xkurj7yjfkh5tn8j8uz94dul9eu4slguaqchlzfzssjwk62q Interesting point, that any antagonist is portrayed as the protagonist views them. 😃

Pantser/Plotter scale

Easy.

I’m a flexible plotter.

The way I plot my stories, I’m free to vary from my intended path as I draft. My methods have evolved over the years (& still do). They’re a collection of my own ideas & those borrowed &/or modified from what others have shared.

I adore my approach. It’s perfect because it’s perfect for me & drastically boosted my productivity.

That’s the key, doing what works for you!

antagonist with sympathy

*Hi all. I’m back, having needed time away.

Novel: Stealing Light.

Kurss Rendcide:

• Is a handsome, middle-aged man

• Believes deeply in what’s important to him

• Is one of the most powerful men in Pannulus & knows how to wield that power

• Displays charm when needed

• Possesses extraordinary confidence & determination

• Treasures his elder son

• Donates large sums to certain charities

What’s not to like? 😃

Writer me

I write otherworld (Ontyre) historical fantasy with diverse casts. I’ll begin publishing Kovenlore Chronicles, a 7-book series (all drafted, plus 2 novellas), in 2024. Other drafted series include Pannulus Mysteries (3 novels, 1 novella) & Thornwillow Tales (1 novel, 6 novelettes).

Yes, I’m a prolific writer.

I’ve written other novellas & many short stories, publish a weekly blog, & create maps for my world.

nostr:npub10d5zhp5atut9hcmyyslxdr07s65tj45q72wxvg229ajwjvmpqugq6lvvxa nostr:npub1f30nd0pxj2d9eau7aqt4aqq4fcnvdu2v3q0ru2n6x58k50pk2maqkeffp6 I learnt this when I intended for a character to have a tragic backstory via his sister’s suicide.

And then a friend’s husband committed suicide in real life.

The sister got to live. I take who I kill off and how a lot more thoughtfully now.

Such a moment and its impact on you is actually the best example of the kind of impact a story death should have. I know you gave me pause. I’m sorry, though, that happened. 😟

nostr:npub10d5zhp5atut9hcmyyslxdr07s65tj45q72wxvg229ajwjvmpqugq6lvvxa I'd never use "late stage" editing because my mind immediately goes to "palliative care editing" as the step after that! 😂

nostr:npub1etqyxmlm8agqa6029xyjg8p5znxp3xl0h6fdjp63rhnx2tvxtpmsru2htj 🤣 Well, I’m a late-stage person and I’m functioning pretty good. I’m an inspiration to my own editing process! Or something like that. 🤔😂

nostr:npub15t80ehmuzsq8kxt99nvy8alessvqr9yg08fqdfgyylnr5e37pjms50sklt Thanks, I will. As someone who adores autumn, I'm lucky that it comes early here in the mountains. Even now, our afternoon temperatures are close to hot (85-90F), but our nights are in the low 50s.

Flathead Lake from the south in mid 2021, a picture I took with my old, dying iPhone. It's the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. Just beyond the mountains in the distance is Glacier National Park, which connects to Canada.

nostr:npub1ns8cre7dmm80wfm3p7mstps54qtdvxs6lgyyttpkt0tnw55eyz4su63max Thanks. The worst years in recent memory were 2015 and 2022. Normally, though, a bad period lasting 4-7 days is typical each year. It could still happen.

I hope that whatever evil cycle you're trapped in relents soon. All my time growing up, wild fires on Vancouver Island aren't something I'd have been able to wrap my brain around. Actually, it's still difficult. Stay safe!

When flora and geology get together to create modern art, something they've been doing since long before humans. I never, ever tire of seeing this.

It's my reward for getting out, for filling all my senses. The outdoors are an anti-aging natural medicine I don't need insurance to cover. It's kinda addictive—and that's okay.

nostr:npub1ns8cre7dmm80wfm3p7mstps54qtdvxs6lgyyttpkt0tnw55eyz4su63max I took a hike yesterday morning. Today, though, the weather is completely different. It's cloudy and wet, the temperature the coolest we've had in months. I will, though, take a walk in the drizzle that's the remnants of Hilary starting to move through Montana.

This week's blog post:

My Next Writing Transition - Another Step Closer

Is this an update?

Yeah.

Except, no.

This is a tale of persistence. This is about slogging through frustration. It's also about sitting down and working towards the dream when it isn't easy or flashy.

This is about reaching the other side.

nostr:npub1py05ape0vp5hy5mpkdk9kre7f6emknkm0yxkymy9fs22ah4q5a9qfy64pt Anything to help! Sadly, as an American, I'm well aware that even converting to states wouldn't be enough for some. I try to keep in mind that I'm one of those freaks who could name all 50 states. 😃

nostr:npub16cjtpx8a0f6ueputl2lcylrnwvjctqg4kx9jcqryzvqhpzp7lpfsk5lzaw Thanks! Time to go clear my mind for a few hours before moving on to the next project. 😃

nostr:npub175l80yqmw7jrh79385lpcdaqdgwvxm25leflgqqedmjpkalphvnqyv55we Thank you! I'm most proud of the fact that I often crafted when I wasn't in the mood to do so. I had to. This is the critical novel that links Carrdia and Pannulus. 😃

I did it!

It took six freaking weeks, but I finally turned my dumpster fire book into (basically) the tale I wanted to tell. It took too long, but I'll cut myself a break because I'm not a summer writer.

I cut, drafted, edited, & even rearranged. The mishmash approach made it difficult to find any rhythm.

It's done (for now). Time to move on...starting with a hike today, which always clears my mind.

I've received a newsletter from Marcy Kennedy for a long while. Her writing insights are always invaluable & unique.

She's published a lot of writing guides, yet, sadly, so few people have heard of her. She was the one who taught me writing in Deep 3rd, her approach one I fell in love with.
