Good day!

I’ll finish the novella by tonight. I don’t care what I have to do.

I’m tired of crying.

Yet, I can’t begin to count the ways that it has helped Book7. Thinking about THAT is enough to make my head spin.

Considerably cooler weather arrives tonight.

Be everwell.

Animal snippet?

From early in Book2, A River in Each Hand, adult Sorceress Crimson & Mazatta the Crow.

He’s her companion since arriving at Knoss Citadel, home to Ministry sorcerers, but also victims, slaves, practitioners, & guardsmen.

She first arrived with memories removed, a little girl crying alone—until a talking crow that shouldn’t exist landed beside her.

Does the US have the collective will to reverse a decades long trend? At this point, I have my doubts, unless a leader who's sufficiently dynamic steps forward. Again, I have my doubts. It has to begin with education and a desire for exceptionalism and ethics rather than consumption and greed.

ethical principles

First of all, I have my own ethical principles that I adhere to & expect in what I read, BUT I also believe in free speech, no matter how distasteful.

The bigger issue, as I see it, is the decline in critical thinking that’s occurring, at least in the US.

What drives it is complex, but eroding education for over 40-years is a huge part of it. This is coupled with video that encourages intellectual passivity.

I do my best to be careful the entire time! But you never know when a bit of ice will slide underneath your feet.

Just over a week ago, like a not-so-smart person, I absently kicked a chunk of ice on my walk.

It didn't move.

Down I went. I was so angry that I got up and kicked that that piece of ice until it broke free. I still have bruises down my left leg. 😆

So often, people are careful walking to their car, then they stretch and twist while cleaning it and fall. I ended up halfway beneath my car years ago when I flung open the driver's side door and my feet went out from beneath me. How dignified. 🤣

Good day!

When I walked in subzero temps last winter my sunglasses completely froze (I need them to prevent migraines).

Yesterday, my goggles remained clear.

Turkey stock is ready to become soup on this frigid day.

More editing with Evie the cat.

Be everwell.

MC’s favorite time of day

Riparia’s favorite time of day is any time she can spend sitting beside a stream or river & find the peace that has proved elusive. The season or the weather don’t matter.

When she feels pressured & trapped, stress weighing her down, the time of day is irrelevant.

She knows what works for her, & what doesn’t, so she seeks out the one & tries to avoid the other. Life, too often, doesn’t help.

% of draft trashed

Editing doesn’t work like this. This implies that only neat blocks are removed & measured (I save any large cuts).

I perform multiple edits, adding & subtracting each time. Yes, my final WIP is 10-15% shorter after all my passes, but how much was added? I’ve no idea.

Too, every draft, every book is different, & I tend to remove less with more recent works, but not always.

They can be tough to find, but I love a romance with a good plot...probably why I like romantic suspense. I'm in awe of those who write good historical novels, but then I've always had a keen interest in history. 😃

You make an excellent point about how our tastes change. Mine sure have evolved over time. I used to read more soft sci-fi than I do now. 🤔

nostr:npub1eeuda68pptpk52ddtkhm27euhplf8jm8nya524k2vzkvpszq88hqtt4aku Odd as it may seem—or not—my upbringing was virtually devoid of pep talks. They just didn't happen. In a way, Tharlise was born of that childhood longing, the imagined talks that never happened. I really hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it. Did I just blow my own mind? Possible. 😆

nostr:npub10d5zhp5atut9hcmyyslxdr07s65tj45q72wxvg229ajwjvmpqugq6lvvxa I've had a similar experience in teaching, supporting a full time colleague 2 hours a day in class when I was part time, and co-teaching 2 classes with a colleague. It can be done alright, with the right combination of people, attitudes, work styles and flexibility.

nostr:npub1eeuda68pptpk52ddtkhm27euhplf8jm8nya524k2vzkvpszq88hqtt4aku It'd be extraordinary, I should think, but not something I can imagine except in theory. I'm glad you had that experience. 😃
