pi hole is a DNS server with some filtering features. It works by configuring your network to refer to the pi hole for DNS. So when you go to some ad ridden trash site, the site is telling your machine to also send DNS requests to this and that ad content. The pi hole refers to a list of known shitty ad domains and just never forwards your DNS requests to locate the ad server if it is on the list of shitty ad domains. Ad server doesnt get the request so it doesnt know you should be getting that ad content.
the end result looks like less or no ads.
now the pi is a pi hole, tor snowflake proxy and uptime kuma server to monitor the real node hardware.
