In Germany, the insolvency figures are rising massively. You can also look at it this way: after years of zero interest policy, interest rates are now causing the zombie companies that have been subsidized to leave the market. If market-based reforms were introduced now, this economy and its industrial base could take off massively. But unfortunately there is no sign of that! #Germany #insolvencies #economy #bitcoin #nostr

The Pnyx: A Bastion of Democratic Zeal in Ancient Athens - With Shadows of Inequality

In the heart of Athens, where the hills whisper secrets of ancient glory, lies the Pnyx, a monument to the dawn of democracy. Imagine a time when the air was thick with the fervor of free speech, where every citizen had a voice in their city's destiny. Yet, this picture is incomplete, for it was a democracy shadowed by exclusionary practices that resonate with modern discussions on equality and freedom.

The Ideal and the Reality

The Pnyx was central to Athenian democracy, especially after the reforms of Cleisthenes around 508 BC. Cleisthenes is often credited with laying the foundations of Athenian democracy, reorganizing the citizen body to break the power of the aristocracy and distribute political influence more broadly among the populace. However, this democratization had its limits.

Who Really Could Vote?

In its most inclusive phase, only adult male citizens could vote in Athens, which, at its peak, might have constituted around 30,000 to 60,000 individuals out of a total population estimated between 250,000 to 300,000 in Attica. This means that perhaps only about 15% to 20% of the adult population had political rights. This starkly contrasts with the democratic ideal we aspire to today, where inclusivity is paramount.

The Question of Slavery and Women

Even more troubling was the institution of slavery in Athens. Slaves, forming a significant portion of the population, were integral to the economy and daily life, yet they had no voice in the Pnyx's democratic deliberations. They were explicitly excluded from the democratic process, highlighting a profound hypocrisy in Athens' democratic narrative. Similarly, women had no say in these assemblies, no vote, no right to speak. They were seen more as property than as participants in the polis's political life, a stark contrast to the participatory ethos we champion today through platforms like Nostr.

Zeus Agoraios and Hypsistos

The spiritual dimension of the Pnyx, dedicated to Zeus in his roles overseeing the marketplace (Agoraios) and the highest moral order (Hypsistos), adds another layer to this narrative. It's an ironic tribute, given that the moral order they worshipped did not extend the same equity to all. This dichotomy is a lesson for us in our pursuit of ethical standards in technology and finance, where we must ensure inclusivity.

The Mechanics of a Flawed Democracy

While the direct democracy at Pnyx allowed for open debate among eligible citizens, the system was inherently flawed. This exclusion of women and slaves from political life shows that the democratic experiment was more about who could be considered a citizen than about universal suffrage. It's a cautionary tale for those of us who seek to build decentralized systems; inclusivity must be at the core, not an afterthought.

Lessons for Our Times

The Pnyx teaches us that democracy, in its truest form, must be open to be legitimate. As we leverage technologies like Bitcoin and Nostr to challenge centralized control, we must also challenge ourselves to ensure these tools are accessible and beneficial to all, not just a select group. The problem of slavery and the lack of voting rights for women in ancient Athens serve as stark reminders of the work still needed to achieve true equality. The Pnyx stands as both a beacon of democratic ideals and a reminder of its limitations.

'Justice... is a kind of compact not to harm or be harmed.'

Epicurus erects one of the pillars of libertarian thought here. Even if the retreat of the epicureans to the garden outside the gates of Athens, to the kepos, bears traces of escapism, this doctrine remains one of the first dazzling departures of human humanism and libertarian thought, in that it directs the focus of philosophical contemplation towards the individual and no longer only towards the polis community.

Bitcoin, with its fair technology accessible to everyone and its unmanipulability, offers (better: enforces) an element that is little discussed from a psycho-dynamic point of view: the return of our woken and fallen society to meritocracy. Only those who offer real values, who convince people of themselves and their performance of their competence, will be able to put their hand on rare Sats. He will value them all the more, the stronger this meritocratic dynamic will accelerate its horizontal tension that moves cultures.

The increasingly dominant vulgar elements in form and symbolism will be replaced by well-ordered beauty and symbolism and will give expression to the fact that humanity has found its way back onto the path of an optimistic desire to become better.

We need to defund them. Stacking harder is a highly ethical task

Let's see how they'll be selling bail outs and massive debasement of money this time around to us. UK and the EU need Russia to lose the war so urgently to get their hands on reparations and cheap energy now. Expect more chaos, friends.

Unearthed: Ancient Silver Hoard Reveals Secrets of Medieval Economy

In a groundbreaking discovery in Eastern England, archaeologists have unearthed a treasure trove of 321 silver coins, providing new insights into the economic practices of the 11th century. This collection, meticulously preserved in cloth, spans the reigns of three Anglo-Saxon kings, offering a rare glimpse into the currency of that era. The coins, dating from the periods of Harold I, Harthacnut, and Edward the Confessor, suggest a sophisticated economic system, far more intricate than previously understood.

Or maybe: It was hidden from the fiscal and fiat thieves of their times...
