The thing that's mindblowing is that your private key is what opens the door to nostr for you. Any given client/app out there is just a portal into nostr, so you're free to choose whichever you like, whenever you like.

With all these new #introductions maybe now we'll start seeing communities talking about more than #nostr and #bitcoin. I love those two things but I also love other stuff.

Have some long-pressed button custom message zaps to both of you

The open/transparent part I think is hard to nail. The nature of the model inherently has built-in bias that is more often than not difficult to discern.

I get how YOU use it, I've also been zapping and shitposting since early 2023. In curious how bro's been using nostr if he says it's not for send/recv and only for merchants?

We all wander off down that road at some point, if not at least think about it. It only leads to darkness.

Decided to finally take up the "zap the devs" for the latest release of #amethyst

Wasn't much but it was honest work. The only downside to that UX is having to individually zap all the devs. Would love to just authorize a fixed amount to divvy up automatically and send to each dev with the push of a single button. But also it's not the end of the world. In doing it each dev at a time it forces me to read their aliases and sort of register in my mind who it is.

I tried moving my Google calendar to Proton (and failed)

Basically, the title.

I've been building up the courage to transition since I started de-googling my digital life about three years ago. At first, there was the browser. It was the easiest — Firefox instead of Chrome, obviously. Then there was mail. I learned about SimpleLogin and started using them by routing all my aliases to a single Proton email address. This was long before their partnership with SimpleLogin. Next, I moved the drive and the documents stored in it. Lastly, there was the calendar.

**Why de-googling**

Everything about my life had been hosted within the Google's ecosystem. Personal documents, bank statements, you name it. But Google’s privacy practices have been increasingly concerning, if not alarming. I got tired of them using and selling my data for advertising — my browsing behavior, purchasing habits, and my email conversations. Google was, and unfortunately still is, everywhere. It is on my phone, in my bedroom, and in my friends' houses. The company's main business model is advertising, and so their revenue streams speak for themselves.

Nice. It's no small feat. I've also been on a similar journey for years now, and I managed to reduce my interactions with Google products to the rare occasion. The biggest thing for me still is that most of my family members and friends still make extensive use which means Google's tendrils are still reaching into my life despite best efforts.

I nuked my X account in early 2024 but I still hanged on Facebook but after todays listening to nostr:npub16le69k9hwapnjfhz89wnzkvf96z8n6r34qqwgq0sglas3tgh7v4sp9ffxj and nostr:npub1k7vkcxp7qdkly7qzj3dcpw7u3v9lt9cmvcs6s6ln26wrxggh7p7su3c04l on What Bitcoin Did podcast I just went and deleted the app while driving home. I am now Nostr exclusive.

Thanks for a great show, and Danny, keep up the good work. You’re doing great so far!

Do you currently use miners for heating? I have a few projects slated for the s9s since they're cheap and durable but I just haven't had much time to start them
