Free speech, free press, justice, full stop.

For much of the last three years I haven't had too much of a problem with the for you algorithm on X. Yes it feeds one's biases but it was random enough to provide views of those other than in my echo chamber. I appreciated this even if I often disagreed with them.

Recently though "ForYou" has become nose to tail Elon Musk and his sycophants. And I don’t even follow him.

So a little advice to Nostr clients when they design their algorithms.

I don't wish to live in an ideological silo, X was at it's best when there was a broad ranging discussion.

If you repeatedly use your client as a vehicle to push a particular viewpoint, I'm off.

ECASH

excuse me, is there a good online resource for understanding ECASH?

Grab a good malt and mellow out this Friday evening.

I was born in 1956.

For those too young to remember, which I'm guessing is most of those on NOSTR, this was the year of the Suez crisis.

When the British finally understood that it was no longer the hegemon.

Before 1956 it was possible for most Brits to pretend that Britain ruled the waves. After 1956 only the knuckle draggers believed it.

When and what will be the US empires Suez moment?

Ukraine

Iran

China

Gold Hill on a foggy Christmas day walk.

Pondering this at 5am in the morning.

The centralising tendency is also something that needs to be avoided with Nostr

Eventually some clients, Primal? Will pull away from the pack.

Partly network effect, partly user interface and perhaps becoming a dominant relay?

What happens when the Fed touches the CEO on the shoulder?

Have to say that Nostr linked to lightning is proving BTC as a means of exchange even if for tipping for posts. I'm guessing that a form of Ebay and pay per view video will arrive at some point (plus use cases that I can't imagine - or don't particularly wish to imagine)

Twelve mile walk through the Dorset countryside today. Wet, cold and windy.

Came across this hidden gem tucked away in Winterbourne Tomson.

A small Norman church which apparently was a favourite of Thomas Hardy.

sorry against my better judgement I clicked on a Guardian link. It immediately lost me when it said that the people of Syria chose freedom.

What has happened in Iraq, Libya and Syria is nothing to do with the choice of the people.

I do have a fair bit of Arabic music from my uncle but as the text is in Arabic, I’ve no idea which is Iran/Lebanon/Iraq etc. but also it’s mostly more traditional or Middle Eastern classical.

Some Artists I really like are Asif and Bachar Mar-Khaliff, they’re much more contemporary sounding.

I'm an old git that played in a brass band some fifty years ago. I was inspired to pick up a trumpet by Ibrahim Maalouf a Lebanese French trumpeter who uses the Easter, Western and jazz tradition to compose music of all genres. I'm a bit of a fan boy but he is now one of the most popular musicians in France.

I did play with his bands brass choir in July. I'm keener on his more reflective stuff but I couldn't pass up this opportunity🙂

Thank you, I use lightning to donate.

Thank you, I came across your thread when searching for Ibrahim Maalouf. I must say I'm a little keener on the more introspective content. That could be the sad times we live in or perhaps my age.

Yours is perhaps the first account I have come across on Nostr that interests me on something other than the Bitcoin/privacy angle.

I would have zapped you but I see you don't have a wallet.

in appreciation.
