I decided to learn how Nostr works under the hood by cresting my own client. Hopefully as a byproduct I'll also create something unique and useful as I do have major issues with every single existing client, that I have tried.

That may take a while. I still have the first Trezor that came out and it still does it's job as expected. With cold wallets it's not like with smartphones. There is no need to pump out a new model every year or so.
A block stream jade is a great alternative to ledger and or trezor. It’s open source and affordable. The cold card is another alternative Altho more expensive. I use both.

As a side note trezor has had vulnerabilities in the past interestingly found by ledger.
Every device, every software will have vulnerabilities. The key here is, that they (Trezor) have a healthy attitude towards them. They fix them as they learn about them and they do have a bug bounty program, which, afaik works pretty well.
I don't know the situation with Ledger, hopefully they do have something similar in place.

How do you imagine that working? Meaning what would that algo base it's recommendations on? (or tbp how it would determine what is it thst you want to see?)
Exactly. I didn't understand at first ang got kinda strong armed into setting up a wallet. However it was really surprising how naturally it came to me. Value for value.
If just recommending npubs suffices, then Plebstr kind of does this. Probably not even close to what you are looking for though.
If you are talking about an algo, then it's on us, meaning either that we have to provide that manually rn, or that we should rely on organic content recommendation or thst it's on us to develop that functionality.
Personally I am a fan of regularly diving into Global looking for new and interesting content and npubs to follow.
