I think it comes from a spirit of independence. Take your shoes off or don’t. I’m just humbled you decided to come spend time with me at my house. Why start off a social engagement with a potentially negative interaction? Seems petty.
For the record, we take our shoes off in our house but don’t expect it of others.

I hear ya and am trying just that. Smaller steps, layering small things over time that add up to big things. A bunch of small stones laid correctly make a path.
