As I grew up, there were certain households with the no shoes in the house rule, it was never like all across the board one way or the other. I’ve found it weird though. I’ve always had a shoe rack by the door. I don’t wanna track in whatever the hell I was stepping in out there.

found it really odd when i first found out about it

i loved the cleanliness in japan, reminded me of home

My house is definitely a no-shoes house because the outside is fucking gross and I don't want it in my house. But you are correct that a lot of Americans walk around inside their house with shoes and I don't understand why either.

I have indoor only slippers but that's about as far as I get with wearing shoes in the house.

slippers are fine, outdoor shoes inside disgust me tho

Agreed. It is annoying, I have to put a fucking plaque on my door asking people to take off their shoes when they come inside.

To fat to bend over to take them off.

solid answer

It’s comfortable I guess. But I don’t get it as well.

You spread dirt all across your home because of laziness?

Laziness and/ or lack of appreciation

They own the place, and don't have to contend with snow

just because you can doesn't mean you should by default though

This is 'Merica ser, that statement doesn't apply here. Didn't you learn that from yesterday's thread on deep frying?

ah

i forgor

Remember the worst thing you can call a Canuck is a Yank.

That's like calling a Kiwi an Aussie!

Or an Eseti being called a Lett!

We take our shoes off when we go OUTSIDE; when we're inside, floors are dirty & disconnected from the earth, so we cover up...

Or something like that 🤷‍♂️😉

Gotta stay ready at all times brother.

for what 😂

The unexpected

well you're expecting it tho, so it's expected

That was unexpected

GOOD

It’s gross, especially if you have carpets. I was raised in a shoeless home. My parents picked up the idea living in Canada for a while and started doing it in earnest when I started crawling as a baby. Nothing like seeing your child lolling all over and even licking the floor to make you consider what you’re tracking onto it.

One of the odd but pleasant coincidences about my husband is his family doesn’t wear shoes inside, either, so he didn’t think that was weird.

I think it comes from a spirit of independence. Take your shoes off or don’t. I’m just humbled you decided to come spend time with me at my house. Why start off a social engagement with a potentially negative interaction? Seems petty.

For the record, we take our shoes off in our house but don’t expect it of others.

It's so we don't burn the bottoms of our feet on all the hot brass.

My husband actually adores it and would like to do it. He feels comfortable in his shoes.

I had several massive arguments against this bs, so he wears shoes only during big visits or on Christmas Eve.

Oh the thing I REALLY don’t understand is how in movies sometimes, people will *get into bed* with their shoes on 😮 does anyone really do this??? And why???
