an old memory
among the spider lilies,
waiting for the night.

Beautiful 🎶📖
Saw this last week & I was thrilled Rivera Garza’s book is up for an award— it’s an inspiring & important story. 💜🙏
“When she finally finds the file and opens it, voices rise from its pages—the voices of Liliana, her parents, her friends, and the friends of her murderer. They are testimonies not to Liliana’s death but to her life.”
“Liliana’s Invincible Summer” is on this year’s Longlist for the National Book Award in Nonfiction. It is one of several works that mine documents from the past in order to forge new meaning.”

nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 begged me to come up with this.
NOSTR is a set of agreements on a file system. Everyone indexes their own files using cryptography to describe under whatever name the data is published.
Because these names are random and unique, there is no conflict among the identities so they can all exist next to each other.
This means the data can be gathered and redistributed by anyone, and they don't have to concern themselves with indexing such that others know what to ask for.
You yourself can be such a relay, or use any (multiple of) services out there to transmit your notes and other stuff to anyone who asks for it.
This Notes and Other stuff Transmitted Over Relays (NOSTR) protocol is not special because it uses public private key pair cryptography.
Its method of success among all attempts out there is realizing that the indexing part is not what is ultimately important in becoming an open standard; but the practical, concrete means used in applying the index amongst each other.
Complexity in integrating the protocol into other systems results in centralization of development. The consequence is a limited offer in software resulting in a no longer really open standard that is in the hands of those who facilitate the tools used to speak the protocol.
By being specific on its simple set up, NOSTR can be a new starting point to set up the infrastructure we use on the internet; where we are free to name, share, find and experience.
💜🫶
I agree!! Chatting with you felt very positive— expression brings clarity & a breath of fresh air with the right people. Thank you very much! 💜
Or use a service that handles all the abstractions, so that a non-tech user can run their own relay. (http://relaying.io)
I do want the community to be bigger and diversified here that for sure, but through ZBD.
ZBD represents all the values that led me to escape traditional social media.
1- You do not have access to your private key, so you are stuck using ZBD, and cannot switch to another client. If ZBD had your private key, meaning it can see your DMs for example, write notes on behalf, etc,..so not your key not your account.
2- ZBD requests location access, does not accept you using VPN to play games, and asks you to activate tracking. So there is data collection mecanisms behind this! And maybe, you data is sold to data brokers (that I’m not sure about, hence the maybe)
I understand your concerns. My hope was a diverse community would emerge sooner than later & I joined for similar reasons— but now all my notes are at the mercy of relays anyway! I’ve seen people create new npubs to check things out in ZBD. I think it’s fun to explore the protocol & maybe devs can make it possible to secure keys in ways that will satisfy the concerns you mentioned— security, choice & the autonomy that is very important to the Bitcoin community.
or make friends with people you trust— who know how to operate one. The more devs who use the protocol a diverse community will grow into all kinds of usages such as ZBD.
I appreciate all of you. I teach reading but always chat with kids & parents about coding & tech in general. Another reason I joined Nostr is to learn— the protocol is fascinating— even if I’m a fish out of water.
yes— understanding “relays” is the true key.
If you've been here for a while, and have created a lot of notes, remember that relays will delete old notes.
To keep them, use my Backup service to download copy of them, you will be able to restore them later, it also updates your notes everywhere.
Backup everything: https://nostryfied.online
Interesting. When I first joined Nostr— one of the main reasons I considered joining was because I was under the impression my notes would belong to me as long as there were functional relays. Everything belongs to the sea— I suppose.
Watching this for a 3rd time (once every year around this time 🌬️🍁) — love this spooky & tragic tale based on *The Turn of the Screw* by Henry James (with new twists). #halloween #film https://www.netflix.com/title/81237854
Finishing up these essays before starting *The Rigor Of Angels* — thrilled it arrived today though!
Randall Jarrell on W.H. Auden (essays about poems)
The Irony of preordering — will it arrive on the 26th/27th— my email updates may change (either way— I am happily counting down the days) 📖🔥
