Yes & No— Education loves buzz words & labels. In my opinion — everyone has something to learn at all stages in their reading lives. I was reading Russian Literary Scholarship text last night & I needed intervention! lol Did my research online. More later— heading into work!
Attending a workshop today: Reading Intervention for Students in Grades 4-9. And I’m early as usual so I have time to enjoy a warm drink & marvel at the holiday decorations.

Wednesday! https://www.nationalbook.org/awards2023/
The 74th National Book Awards are this week & Cristina Rivera Garza, Liliana’s Invincible Summer: A Sister’s Search for Justice made the nonfiction list— I’m thrilled. I’m a fan of the author & this exceptional book.
Shakira with her sons — love this photo. I can’t believe it will soon be December again.

Then burn the house down to fulfill the prediction.’
These lines mocked the Communist claim to rule, which was based on the theory of history as formulated by Marx. According to the concept of dialectical materialism—“diamat,” as its adherents often abbreviated it—the triumph of the Soviet Union under the leadership of Joseph Stalin was not a contingent event but the necessary result of an age-old process of class conflict.”
Found this gem today as I was looking for info. connected to some M. M. Bakhtin/P.N. Medvedev literary scholarship.

In 2017, I bought my nieces Max Wainwright’s book *How To Code* — I know that might seem absurd to some of the geniuses on here— learning to code in a book ☺️ But I always encourage kids to learn coding— even if I don’t personally want to learn. My niece is actually looking into colleges & thinking of software engineering. https://www.amazon.com/How-Code-Step-Step-Computer/dp/1454921773

Q: What are the psychological reasons we might avoid acting on the information we have about climate change?
A: Fight, flight and freeze mechanisms are an integral part of the older part of the brain … It’s affective, and it’s emotional … When you’re presented with traumatic information, the self-regulatory processes that normally work in a fluid manner are disrupted to the point where you cannot take in information.

commonsense advice— great piece.
I have been thinking about the term #unschooling lately. It seems to have a kind of negative vibe for the normies, and it mostly tells us what this type of learning is not.
The term #worldschooling has a positive vibe, but not everyone can/wants to travel the world for their kids education.
My proposal is the term #SovereignLearning.

It’s been around longer than you think… educators who are often patents talk about child centered education. My friend had her first child & is grappling with this— often about time, resources, & skills as a facilitator of… education. “At the turn of the twentieth century, it was revolutionary to think that a child’s education could be child-centered—shaped according to his or her actual brain and body. Montessori and her many disciples made this common sense.”The Miseducation of Maria Montessori https://www.newyorker.com/books/under-review/the-miseducation-of-maria-montessori
