I have been thinking about the term #unschooling lately. It seems to have a kind of negative vibe for the normies, and it mostly tells us what this type of learning is not.

The term #worldschooling has a positive vibe, but not everyone can/wants to travel the world for their kids education.

My proposal is the term #SovereignLearning.

Well it may not be that original since there's nostr:npub1s0veng2gvfwr62acrxhnqexq76sj6ldg3a5t935jy8e6w3shr5vsnwrmq5. But anyways, what do you all think?

What about #unschoolingeducation ?

Btw we are #worldschooling our children too. ❤️

I sometimes refer to it as child-led education, which tends to resonate better and it does focus on what it is instead of what it's not.

Unschooling is good for triggering people since everybody has/used-to-have that mantra that "schooling" is essential, but child-led education is generally more appropriate.

That makes sense.

I like how child-led education is easy to understand, as a concept, by most people.

It’s been around longer than you think… educators who are often patents talk about child centered education. My friend had her first child & is grappling with this— often about time, resources, & skills as a facilitator of… education. “At the turn of the twentieth century, it was revolutionary to think that a child’s education could be child-centered—shaped according to his or her actual brain and body. Montessori and her many disciples made this common sense.”The Miseducation of Maria Montessori https://www.newyorker.com/books/under-review/the-miseducation-of-maria-montessori

Yes! We like the term #selfled or #selfledlearning (I personally don't like anything so much with the word 'school' in it 😅)

I try to use those more common hash tags so regular people can find me. I'm not sure anyone is searching for #selfled or other new concepts yet! ✨

Interesting. Thank you for a clarifying. I teach reading in schools & attend really valuable trainings sometimes— do you think it’s worth sharing what I learn occasionally with this tag. Honest opinion is welcome— I have worked with & respect parents before who choose a different route for their kids, but I obviously support funded education.
