Taking time off from projects to sketch fish.
Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. U.S. Art Supply watercolor book (110 lbs./230 g/m2). Uniball Air pen.
Process photos, then the finals. Spent about an hour by the pond.
I like some finals more than others, and discovered there is a way I can work with watercolor pencils to get a style I like. ๐

Pause. Image sitting at a bench with trains going by in front of me. The trains are all the thoughts and feelings etc that have built up, but they pass. Iโm still there and when I can feel and think clearly, I go on.

The composition feels an odd to me because the bird is looking to the right and positioned far right on the page. Usually a subject looks โinto the frameโ so right-looking bird is on the left. Unless you have something behind the bird that are making a point about to the view as part of the illustrationโs story, like a cat peaking through bushes.
The hard line is a cool design element. I think you could make it stronger next time if there was a parallel hard line under the bird; so not watercolor all the way down. Have a bit of the paper showing on the bottom left as you have in the large area for the top right.
