On this Elon/Trump talk, Trump just said “we would have no inflation” if not for Biden. This is false.

I think it’s important to clarify that there *was* massive inflation during Trump’s administration.

From January 2017 to January 2021, the M2 money supply increased from ~$13.3 trillion to ~$19.4 trillion by January 2021.

That’s an INFLATION of ~$6.1 trillion, or ~45%.

There is a LAG between monetary inflation and general price increases throughout the economy, and price increases do not happen uniformly (look up the Cantillon Effect).

To clarify for the partisans out there: this is NOT an attempt to make excuses for Biden or to say that the monetary and fiscal policies under Biden are good; they are not good.

The point is that it is false to say “there was no inflation” under Trump.

Monetary inflation *is* inflation.

Without getting into the philosophical incompatibility aspect, what is the consensus on the TECHNICAL quality of Ledger? Haven't used one in a minute, but all of the people I've helped get into #bitcoin over the years still have their ledgers - and are oblivious to the shitstorms that have gone on.

Everyone always thinks they're the exception until they're not. It's like saying privacy doesn't matter if you have nothing to hide. Criminal is a subjective label and can change.

Since the prior two recessions in the US were so big and unusual (2008 and 2020), a lot of people have become accustomed to thinking that something massive for the economy is always around the corner.

Now, since the fiat system does trend toward being less and less stable over time, there’s a very real possibility that we will keep getting larger crises.

But sometimes there can be periods of just stagnation. Not everything is explosive, economically speaking. And public sector debt bubbles tend to unfold very differently than private debt bubbles.

It's actually quite cheap if we eliminated inflation and taxes on our money. Norway sets a very good example with cost effective and humane imprisonment for violent offenders.

Thinking about locking 1 BTC in my nsec as a proof of key safety. If somebody gets my key, they can steal the 1BTC. And if they do, I will know my key has leaked.

On Nostr, unless you monitor your own posts VERY closely, you never know if your key has leaked or not. That creates lots of liabilities for businesses and some risks for users. Adding a value that is appropriate to the size of the account could work as attack notifier. And business might even be able to insure that amount with cyber insurance. 🤔

I thought it’s not the State that decides, but a jury of citizens? Plus what of those who plead guilty? Lets do this: all prisoners, regardless of sentence, should be put to work to both repay their debt to fellow citizens plus ensure others are not forced to pay for their existence. Those that plead guilty have a choice: kill yourself, or stay in prison and work for free for society until they die of natural causes. Modern crime investigation tech practically eliminates doubt.

Maybe this is more a problem with the horrific inefficiency of the prison system? Again, a problem of state incompetence. Just because it’s gonna cost a lot isn’t an excuse to potentially murder innocent people.

The justification that “sure some of them might be innocent, but think what it costs to keep them alive” just doesn’t seem like a good one, imo
