Shipped a relatively bug free Nos to the App Store. Facilitated the pivot to Communities.

Worth a read if just for the history of health insurance in the US. I remember this change taking place.

Are you a Nos user or someone who is frustrated about the lack of control in your feed? Nos is seeking prototype testers for Monday Dec 16 and Tuesday Dec 17. This is a 30 minute session over Jitsi meet.

Interested DM me and I’ll send you a link to schedule. We are compensating participants for their time!

Thanks for getting back to me with those!

I’ve got through all so far, but still can’t find an account that clears those filters.

❐ PictureRoom - Seems to be interspersing a fair amount of bitcoin references, fair enough to them, but I’m hoping for creators that would appeal to people who will ‘nope out’ if they see bitcoin references pop up regularly.

Ainsley Costello - Also posting a fair amount of bitcoin content (again fair enough to her, that's the audience here).

War Monitor - Clearly investing in content, but 90% posts I’m seeing 0 replies. Perhaps that’s an account from another platform reposting here, and engagement is on that other platform? Hoping for at least a little genuine back and forth under each post, doesn’t have to be 100 replies but at least 5 replies or so, some agreement, some disagreement, especially on current news like Syria -- basically anything to show there is a genuine following here on nostr, even if modest. (Something other creators would look at and say hey, there's a potential audience over there on nostr.)

isolabell.art - Her paintings are my style! But she's also slotting in bitcoin content such as:

“If you don't find time to do things, maybe time is waiting for the next block to be mined.”

“Wait for the value of Bitcoins to rise and buy while saving!”

Again fair enough, makes total sense for here. But I'm really hoping to surface content that won’t turn off people who, for whatever reason, just don't like bitcoin and are not going to like bitcoin.

Hopeless romantic - Seems to be reposting quite a lot of inspirational GIFs, and I'm not seeing any discussion under mosts posts, maybe that's an automated account?

Zap cooking - Good name. Not seeing replies on most original posts there either though, also the ratio of reposts to original posts is a little high.

This seems to be the challenge. I guess it could be quite early, but I'm hoping to find at least 5 nostr-first creators that will appeal to those who don't want to hear about bitcoin and for whom each post is generating replies.

I would say nostr:npub1n8gvnx827tdl46ke406sjx0t5ey4mrtptux766ejp9y2ff8cc3uqe4ufd0 is a good option re technology for journalists.

nostr:npub1uuxnz0sq60thc098xfxqst7wnw77l0sm3r8nn48yspuvz4ecprksxdahzv is news and original content not an algorithm. I find myself learning new things from their work.

nostr:npub1xm0rvnpw52nh7tk59ntly55w74rmd2cqvt3kg5zxrzz3rlssvspsk0gs6s is very progressive/ left news / opinion pieces.

nostr:npub1daajnadf0f0s7uz3yftur8434rtz2s949gkdpx7uyeapm9rlt0qq9q8w5z writes about parenting as a dad, so if you have kids…

nostr:npub1f5kc2agn63ecv2ua4909z9ahgmr2x9263na36jh6r908ql0926jq3nvk2u is another artist focused on street sketches. I love her work!

nostr:npub1q33jywkl8r0e5g48lvrenxnr3lw59kzrw4e7p0cecslqzwc56eesjymqu0 streams music from his own mastodon server but through Nostr. If you are in Europe it’s definitely worth a listen in the morning. He occasionally posts about technology but only related to his own setup.

nostr:npub1jcwuf0dh5vqsq44qavygqwjfecawf53fmx7gadlcdtuexz0548hqy4jyrz is an advocacy organization for digital privacy in the states. Worth following if you want to help fight KOSA and other uninformed legislation.

This is a challenge we spent some time working on earlier this year and recruited the above folks to feature or join Nostr.

If you are familiar with the flywheel effect, Nostr is a bit stuck on the turn around the bottom. The tech is there, there’s a group of enthusiastic early adopters but they are struggling to bring more folks in. Lack of diverse content is a major barrier however there are other challenges as well.

Someone joined a few weeks ago, introduced themselves and was bombarded by welcome messages to set up a wallet. The person left within an hour after noting they were not interested in Bitcoin. There is nothing wrong with enthusiasm however we need to meet people where they are. Not everyone is excited about Bitcoin and we should respect that and instead discover what they are interested in.

Censorship resistance is a lagging motivator meaning a person will only make the switch when they have personally experienced shadow banning or outright banning elsewhere. Yet most of the Nostr marketing in the wild leads with this selling point. Ask 5 average people what they think that means and what the social network behind it would be like and you’ll begin to see why the flywheel is stuck.

With that said the protocol is incredibly flexible which means there are lots of opportunities to build around and/or through these challenges. And there are many developers and teams doing good work.

My sense is that 2025 would be a good year to start linking all the pieces together. Less traditional keynote talks and more interactive working sessions focused on specific use cases.

I’m personally excited about the possibilities as we head into 2025!

It’s been awhile since I’ve been impressed with website technology. And I’m likely very late to the party on this one. Everything about this site is instantly understandable and the interaction possibilities even on mobile are 💯!

2. I don't think so - I don't know of any user friendly building tool.

Thank you! Super helpful!

#asknostr Two questions related to DVMs as algorithmic feeds:

1. Is there a list of the publicly available algorithmic feeds people have already created?

2. Is there a user friendly tool for people to create their own algorithmic feeds?

nostr:npub1ae0wxyvsg2r7gxlvhyexrp27f5gvwcm08kavjztcwxa44yng4h0qup7upy created a list of the 40 best tech books of all time and it is fascinating! I’m excited to dive in and read some of these works that have been on my list of To-Reads for awhile. https://www.theverge.com/c/23771068/best-tech-books-nonfiction-recommendations

Try adding relay.mostr.pub to your list of relays and then wait a little bit. The content should populate

While this thread mostly discusses physical products I think this is an interesting discussion for #Nostr. What graceful failure modes are we building into the apps, the protocol etc? There’s the obvious relay based decentralization at the core of Nostr but what else needs a graceful fail?
