This time 4 years ago, I was writing college essays, trying to discover my path, answering questions like:

- What inspires you to act?

- Reflect on an idea that excites you.

I never could have imagined the P2P network I’d soon find that would show me the way — each node is a giant whose shoulders I’ve stood on, and anything I’ve done is only possible because of the intellectual generosity and PoW of this community.

2024 has given me more than I deserve. Thank you, nostr:npub1yjryjq2kdganuc69zme9agk0q4rjcnlxel3fwp3xm9z68phsxngsqd33a9, for naming me Rookie of the Year and wrapping up these past 4 years in the most incredible way.

Actual newbie here. For what it's worth, the only lightning wallet I've ever set up is Wallet of Satoshi. Everything else seemed too troublesome / confusing. I then funded the wallet with a small amount but have not so far found a business where I could use it (I know there are various online options but they don't generally have stuff that I need enough). I may connect it to nostr and try zapping - I'll have to read up on how to do that.

What makes it a little difficult to get totally excited about lightning is that I still don't really understand how it works. What I find attractive about bitcoin is the ability to hold currency in a non-custodial wallet. So with lightning, I would also want a non-custodial wallet. But I don't really get how such a wallet (or really any lightning wallet) interacts with the lightning network and the chain. For example, there is supposed to be an opening and later closing of a payment channel, but I'm not really seeing that in, say, Wallet of Satoshi. If I were to buy a cup of coffee, when and with whom is the channel opened, or is it already open? When is the channel closed? When does an on-chain transaction occur? It's all a bit obscure. That's not to say that I won't use lightning, it just dampens the enthusiasm.

What is your go to tactic when you can’t go to sleep? Count to 10,000?

Good morning nostr, gettin ready for the day, but enjoying my coffee first. I've been thinking about getting rid of our rooster and replacing him with a different one. He's been showing signs of aggression towards me, and i just dont want/need a rooster like that. My friend who hatches eggs has 6 roosters that she hatched, so she has offered me one of hers. She said i could have two if i want, but i'm worried that would cause problems, i dont know. So that's what i'm noodling this morning. Most people's spiritual states are so bad that they feel the need to alter it with alcohol, sugar, porn, weed, psychedelics and shopping/consumption.

This is true but not what I’m talking about. I spend time with many disparate groups outside of Bitcoin - health, politics, financial, spiritual, agriculture that are all “starting”to see that their biggest problem is actually a sub-problem of something else. I’m being pulled into those groups to help them understand the bigger picture.

From all my conversations recently, it is obvious that a deep awakening is emerging throughout society.

And while some haven’t completely connected the dots yet, it’s inevitable…and amazing to watch.
