I saw the original drama unfold in real time while I was talking to people about unrelated stuff and I tried to do damage control in the background (which only partially helped)… this is one of those situations where imho everyone involved is wrong.

Just sucks that you got suspended but no one else did…

FinCEN’s proposal to outlaw all crypto privacy is a huge overreach. They apply a section of the Patriot Act on a “class of transactions” in a new precedent. Doesn’t matter if it’s custodial or noncustodial- merely using certain type of code can be an illegal act.

People are caught by the potential spot ETF, meanwhile this is proposed. Now they fight you.

You mean like using any wallet that implements single use addresses (every wallet worth using) if this usage is deemed “unnatural”?

“You’re only allowed to make transactions that we think you should be making”. 😂

E.U. Digital Services Act is now resulting in 137,630 content take downs per hour on mainstream corporate social media sites.

And climbing.

Soon, you will find nothing but acceptable State narrative, with enough disagreement allowed to provide the illusion of free expression.

As long as nostr stays small, it will be tolerated for a while. And then it wont be. If it grows large, the false flags, corporate media attacks, and subversive bot activity will occur sooner.

When you start seeing alot of obvious, over the top neo-Nazi posts, it will be a sign the Feds are targeting the network.

What are the sneakiest things that can be done to Bitcoin via softforks? Or another way to phrase it, which types of softforks are so powerful that they are almost like hardforks?

I figure that the question could spark some interesting replies.

An example is SegWit, which effectively increased the block size without technically increasing it. Another example would be some sort of increasing transaction tax on older UTXOs, where in order to move them one must pay an extra fee determined by how many blocks they have been dormant for.

Sometimes I wonder if we're not focused enough on developing meaningful (and free) social spaces in VR. At times it feels like there is a fabric of "permissioning" being lowered over what were nominally public spaces, for previous generations. I worry that one day we will wake in a world where if you don't have the right face, the right politics, the right cash — or more likely, card — there will be no place to go. Access denied.

I think that if we focus on R - without the V - this is an issue in a set of ever increasing geographies, right now.

Let’s make use of the freedoms that we enjoy today to make sure that tomorrow isn’t as dystopian as it likely would become if we were to do nothing.

closed source custodial nostr clients are a threat to users and during these early days of nostr adoption represent an existential threat to nostr

if a non sovereign client or tool accrues significant market share they could potentially use their control over users to influence the greater network or bifuricate it

nostr is permissionless and we cannot stop people from shipping whatever tools they want but it highlights the importance of rapid development of freedom focused foss clients and tools

this is my main focus, supporting the individuals building out the freedom tech tools we sorely need, momentum is strong, incredibly hopeful, we must continue to push forward 🫡

The good news is that for nostr to be usable in the real world, key rollover functionality is a must-have. So even though right now you think that your key is your everything, if all goes well you will find out that it’s replaceable in the (hopefully near) future ❤️
