There used to be. I've been engaging in Fedi for several years now. At some point it started to grow this aggressive camp of annoying whiney cunts. The disgruntled former residents of Twitter who came in and wanted to change things to turn it into the shitty place they left behind.

Ya. NIP-05 is the current way but it might be inadequate. How long until some imposter tries to con and creates something close enough for people to be fooled. It won't take long, imo. As someone in the response has mentioned, there's a second level of verification using the npub that can be used.
Fedi is so full of self-important drama queens. You realise after some time that you've been unknowingly surrounded by a group nobodies - mostly adults behaving like children.
Nonetheless, I enjoy being an observer of the dumpster fires fedi constantly has.

#2 and #3, I can see that happening. They'll want something easy, meaning have someone else do it for them for a price.

Ahh the npub, that's right. As you've mentioned, they'd have to display that elsewhere in other verified SM profiles or website for people to verify for themselves.
