Lets say Nostr gets its primetime attention and the “famous” people join in droves. They’re going to want to be verified because of their self-importance.
#asknostr How is it done here if it’s possible?

Unfortunately I not sure what that answer is, but make sure you don't look for making money off of Nostr, like this jackass on fedi.
Haha. Agreed, NPC. It will never happen.
tell them I will set it up for them. 😁
Just add a ✔️ next to their alias. Et voila, verified mofo.
They’ll possibly be verified through their own domain or another (Nip-05) plus their public address will allow they to tell people if they’re who they say they are which they can post on their other socials or websites
I suppose they all have what they would probably call "IT guy" on payroll to set that up for them.
Possibly I would imagine they’ll want them to do it for them to get rid of the so called fake accounts that and their npub can’t be replicated so it’ll be two ways to verify them
#nostr is a ways from prime time.
1. The importance of your private key is beyond the comprehension of many
2. Relays are not yet scalable enough
3. Clients are raw
4. Usability of filter, lists and lack of mixers is an issue
These will improve with time.
Hypothetically, it is gaining attention now, at its current state, how is verification done?
This may be an issue. Thoughts:
1. So I registered a domain, and uploaded a json file…. That works for me.
My suspicion is important person A could do the same. The issue is that others could kinda spoof by creating a similar name/domain pair.
2. That said here is a business idea for you. Go register the domain significant-or-important-nostriches.com (just check still available) accept and verify for a recurring fee. Then also maintain a list or series of lists associated with this. Presumably people would trust the lists and users verified by that website. Make the standard bet for verification high
3. Another model would be to just maintain either via verification or other process a list or lists of people of significance, possibly by category. This could be volunteer or pay service depending on effort and usefulness.
As for #1, same.
#2 and #3, I can see that happening. They'll want something easy, meaning have someone else do it for them for a price.
Though idk about lists because that will be someone else's business to manage it and that's too many hands involved just for verification.
I wrote a long reply to you and then poof. It just disappeared. I must have frightened the gods of secrecy.
It was about multisig security, hackers and public key exchange parties back in the day. Lastly it was about old keyrings and key servers at places like MIT.
If I learn something definitive, I'll try and share it with you. But I'm slow or maybe just strung out, depending on how you look at it..🤗🧡👑🗽
p.s. Today we have smartphones and QR codes. So we could do cocktails and exchange QR codes..😊
There is NIP-05 verification, if you own the domain, you verify your identity using your domain.
But I don’t think that’s going to work for them.
Verification in the other platform is something that’s marketed as exclusive and can be seen as a status symbol.
The NIP-05 is definitely not that. It is something that’s open to everyone and anyone.
Ya. NIP-05 is the current way but it might be inadequate. How long until some imposter tries to con and creates something close enough for people to be fooled. It won't take long, imo. As someone in the response has mentioned, there's a second level of verification using the npub that can be used.
🙄
The concept of "verified" only works in a system with a central entity to act as source of truth. Nostr doesnt work like that.
You could totally create your own "verified service" for these ppl. But like ratings agencies like Moody's or Fitch, they're independent services in an open system, not a central authority.
Yup. Makes complete sense. I was thinking in a sense of how their demands for verification will be handled by a decentralised community. They will always opt for an easy way because I highly doubt they know how use their own domain by way of NIP-05 unless they pay someone to do it.
