Amethyst renders ***Markdown*** which isn't part of the nostr spec.
I think there's a Cloudflare setting to stop hot linking. Turn that off and you should get direct links to the images with extensions.

Nope. They host your media files. They include a media player. When you upload a video, they'll do the same as YouTube and create different resolutions it can serve up to viewers based on the viewers bandwidth.
Basically, it's YouTube technology, but your domain, and you pay rather than advertising.
