There are two of me.  My follows on Astral.Ninja do not show up in Yosup.App and vice versa.  Even worse, if I actually go and open thier profile it says I'm not following them at all. Is this a problem with Relays?

Client/relay combos feel very dangerous to me. The moment a client will preferentially or worse solely work with its own relay counterpart things can go bad. That being said, as long as your identity is your key pair you can switch clients at will

I think the small set of public relays are fun right now but it is a luxury of a relatively small community. The spam will get bad (already started to see this yesterday) so public relays are going to get noisy and clients are going to need techniques to fight the spam.

One idea is just a way to send some sats to the relays you are connected to. This could whitelist your key for some amount of time, or PoW queries for strangers.

Maybe smaller private communities will take off, not many people doing that yet.

How will Nostr be able to avoid the fate of email?

It started, like Nostr, as an open protocol. Anyone could set up SMTP servers, but most didn’t, opting instead for managed email services (you can imagine something similar happening with Nostr where people would opt for managed clients that offer better UX).

Over time the managed email services made up the majority of traffic, and in their fight to prevent spam, they took ever more heavy-handed approaches to filtering. Emails originating from untrusted non-managed SMTP services were deleted on receipt, never to be seen again. Try starting a new mail service today. It’s not possible. Email has become a walled garden, an oligopoly.

How do we build the right incentives into the operation of relays and clients such that spam, bots and all kinds of fowl play are dealt with in a way that doesn’t compromise on the open access and censorship-resistance of the protocol?

We've reached a point at NostrPlebs.com where it's more than two dudes hurling code at the screen to see what happens. Rest assured, code is still being hurled, but internal documentation and standard operating procedures are being written too. We are growing. Thank you all.

It would be awesome if we could not make the same mistake over and over again and develope nostr with normies in mind from the start. It already goes down a path no one wants to follow if not fanatic fan of decentralization or bitcoin.

Means: stop using words like relay, node, pubkey, privkey or verify with *insert cryptic coder stuff here* and find ways a normal internet user can at least use (they wont understand it anyways. No one understands email, money or internet and no one cares how they work).

I can not even manage to explain to most people why decentralization is important. They understand the basic problem but see no need for a solution in their lifes at all. Most have good experiences with centralized services. Because the UX is nice and simple.

Imo we need more simple UX in and around bitcoin and nostr. This right now is a UX desaster and the perfect path into ‚linux is the OS of the future… for already 40 years‘.
