The Rothschilds and the Jewish migration to Palestine

The Rothschild family, one of the wealthiest and most influential banking dynasties in Europe, played a key role in the Jewish migration to Palestine and the development of the future State of Israel.

Who financed the Jewish migration?

One of the most important members in this process was Edmond de Rothschild (1845-1934), a French banker who actively supported the Zionist movement.

- In the late 19th century, he financed Jewish settlements in Palestine, when the region was still under the control of the Ottoman Empire.

- He bought large tracts of land and helped establish modern agriculture, vineyards and factories, facilitating the settlement of thousands of Jews.

- His investments were key to the First Aliyah (1882-1903), one of the first great waves of Jewish immigration.

Relationship with Zionism and the State of Israel.

Although Edmond de Rothschild did not initially consider himself a Zionist, he eventually supported the cause of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism.

He contributed financially to the creation of the Jewish National Fund, which purchased land for the establishment of Jewish communities.

His investments helped create cities such as Rishon LeZion, Zikhron Ya'akov and Rosh Pina, which would later become part of the State of Israel.
