I was just discussing something similar with some friends I went camping with not long ago. We were at Ft George inlet and it turned gale force windy. The good side of having an unpleasant experience like that is finding out how much gear breaks or just doesn’t pass the test. I know you’ve mentioned in the past that “RV” stands for “ruins vacations” but a cheap Coleman tent in a gale with blowing sand does that too. I slept in my car, reminiscing about how I used to have my art show trailer pre-packed with my gear so I could just up and go in about 30 min. And it had extras in case I couldn’t find or afford a hotel at the show. Sometimes I would sleep in it. Now that I think of it, it was a bug out bag on wheels before I even knew what a bug out bag was. SO may more options now. I just saw where you can get a suitcase sized kit that you can check as a bag on an airplane, that can open up to turn your rental SUV into a mini camper. Neat.

“But wait, there’s MORE!” First time I went looking for IBC totes I found some that the seller said had “cooking oil” in them. I whipped out my phone and looked up the name on the tank tag. It was actually a silicone based cooking oil additive. Silicone. It’s used in most commercial deep fryers to keep the oil from foaming up too much when a lot of things are fried all at once. Apparently some folks tested positive for traces of that silicone in their blood after eating

McD. Fries. I didn’t buy the totes. I haven’t eaten at McD. In about 6-7 years.

Water as hot as you can stand it, or Adolph’s meat tenderizer - not sea water to stop the nematocysts. Peeing on it and scratching it like he did will only make it worse. In this case stupid did hurt.

Have you tried a loop of rope threaded through the halter ring and run around her behind? We used to do that with halter training foals. Something strange that squeezes their bum when they balk, works pretty well. It sure beats a tug or war with a big critter.

And it’s a shame that so many widows find out too late that their old diamond jewelry won’t get them much to live off of when they need it most. Wholesalers around here pay only $5 per carat for under 1/2 carat stones when they buy stones taken out of gold scrap

Gotta love how NOSTR links so seamlessly shift to browsers and YouTube. MeWe could stand to take note of that.

Did you see the tv adaptation from years ago? Seemed like an honest effort given the state of tech at the time.

Even AKs & variants? It’s yet another example of political ignorance making things worse. In my limited Experience, the AR is the ultimate hog hunting gun.

If they’re anything like the ones here in the South (decades ago some genius brought Russian boars to interbreed and make better hunting) they’re delicious. More like beef than domestic pork. AR-15 fitted with a thermal scope and suppressor bagged me 12 on my first hunt. Get some if you can.

Just imagining what that forest smells like. I always like to walk in forested/wild areas when I travel, they all smell so different. Sounds kinda weird as I read that back, but using all the senses in strange lands is worth it.

I’ve only been on here a few days and it seems the #tsp folks have pretty much taken over the #grownostr at least if not completely skewed the demographics of the whole thing

Don’t forget the old mimeograph machines too. No surprise they’ve been getting crazy expensive. The old offset and linotype presses exponentially more expensive and few know how to work them anymore. Many years now, the System has worked to eliminate the chemicals and supplied needed to run such printing presses. Kinda like they don’t want us to have such tools anymore eh?
