Ecash definitely not necessary for this. If you're using Android, Amethyst and Primal both have one tap zaps and NWC support (which allows you to pull from a wallet that is external to the Nostr client)

I cannot figure out the ecash cashu UX. Shouldn't I be able to hold the ecash without redeeming it and incurring the redemption fee?
I'm far prefering a nostr experience where I lower my default zap amount to feel the freedom of zapping everything I like without a second thought, basically replacing likes with zaps.
But it seems that to be doing this right, I should be using ecash? Is this possible on Android? Feeling wofully ignorant on ecash.

The situation I had in mind with my original post is the instictual clawing over each other to survive, where our capacity for rational thought is short-circuited by the lizard brain struggling to get one more breath.
Remove a pile of clawing humans from a situation where most of them must surely drown, and instead give them some tasty BBQ, and I bet friendliness increases.

I took your advice and built a gif nostr companion app:
You can download the PWA to your home screen, search for your gif, copy the address and paste it into your client
On the back end, for every gif that gets copied/clicked, an API request is made to upload to nostr:npub1nxy4qpqnld6kmpphjykvx2lqwvxmuxluddwjamm4nc29ds3elyzsm5avr7 by nostr:npub137c5pd8gmhhe0njtsgwjgunc5xjr2vmzvglkgqs5sjeh972gqqxqjak37w
From there a nip94 request is done so that the content can be accessed by any client in the future
Now, anyone who searches for gifs using this tool is also helping to build the gif repository for nip94 and adding fallback urls to nostr.build

Bitcoin has no use except for its use as money. So it's either worth zero because nobody else accepts it as money, or Bitcoin is extremely valuable because everybody wants to be paid in bitcoin.
