“We need to push for an economics education that is more pluralist, ethically aware, historically grounded and relevant to the real world. Rethinking Economics is among those leading this charge. It has trained successive generations to ask better questions and ventured beyond the university to challenge orthodoxy in government, banks and in the public imagination.”

Good self-criticism.

See you tomorrow 💫

Wencke was having a heavy day and told me she missed the hug threads, so I said, “Let’s have one,” and I started the Huggy Day (I’m not sure if the word is the best…)

Good morning, Kat… you’re late… today was Huggy Day! ✌️

“I ts subsequent transformation is the subject of “The Mission” by Tim Weiner, who won a Pulitzer prize in 1988 for his reporting on the cia. Mr Weiner’s book covers the agency’s frantic post-9/11 years, including the distortion of its intelligence prior to the Iraq war. Mr Weiner meticulously documents a level of chaos, deception and politicisation in the upper echelons of the cia that put in perspective current debates over Donald Trump’s own efforts to reshape and purge the agencies. “The very survival of the agency” was in question in 2004, he recalls.

Mr Weiner also shows how the cia’s role in counter-terrorism changed the identity of the agency. The naiveté of the 1990s was replaced with machismo: in the early 21st century the cia “looked much more like a paramilitary organisation than a spy service”. The 500 cia personnel in Baghdad were obliged to travel in convoys of three armoured vehicles, which “was not conducive to conducting clandestine meetings with Iraqis”, remarks Mr Weiner. Incompetently designed covert-communication systems contributed to the collapse of agent networks in Iran and China.”

I don't think it's a bad idea. In fact, it could be an excellent option. Both a presidential representative democracy and a parliamentary representative democracy have pros and cons. The key is how you structure it and define the incentives that make the chosen political system work. In Peru, in theory, they have a presidential representative democracy. In practice, the Congress/Parliament does what it wants with the President. Not only that, but within Congress itself, there are factions and even political mafias. I suggested you go deeper because it's the best way to learn, not because I consider your statement to be wrong.

“The analysis revealed consistent, overlapping use of certain areas by multiple species — evidence of biodiversity hotspots that warrant stronger protection.

But many of these zones lie in the high seas, beyond any nation’s jurisdiction, making the findings especially urgent, Gerber said. “The fact that >60% of IMMegAs occur in the high seas highlights the global governance gap and reinforces why multinational coordination is essential.””

I don't think they'll take my job. I think it has great potential to make the result less interesting. In terms of a creative field: from gourmet food to fast food.

AWS slaps usage caps on Kiro as AI editor preview proves too popular for its own good

“The distinctive feature of Kiro is "spec mode" where the initial prompt for building an application does not create any code, but generates markdown files for requirements, a proposed design including tech stack, and step-by-step tasks for implementation”
