A lot of what makes Nostr great is experimentation. Damus has brought a lot of new innovation and change by moving fast and breaking things.
One risk with Damus as the largest app, is it can overly influence network changes that may be bad long term (behaviours, or inefficient NIPs, or whatever), but are great short term experiments.
Value for value is a developing area for individuals, and thatās great. Lots of benefits to individuals having fewer middlemen, more control and the ability to diversify their income easily - single income mindset drives economic inequality (not saying working 2+ full time jobs is better either). Iām deriving V4V here as āpay what you wantā effectively.
Business however will struggle to adopt a V4V approach, as V4V is missing a key free market analog - setting a market price. Same as Apple prices is lowest product to baseline itās more popular and higher costs products; without a instant gauge on what the seller is willing to price something at, the buyer has no idea how much is fair to pay. Other reasons like businesses recurring costs, salaries, etc, but even ignoring them, V4V has a fundamental problem.
And in terms of reactions not having value in comparison to zaps.. here was what I wrote earlier. I think itās rubbish, and an extension of a tipping culture ideology, where unless you financially transact, it has no value.
The best counter point is simple manners - you donāt tip $0.01 instead of saying thank you to a cashier.

Which are you most interest in?
Currently these charts are internal only, however more personal stats are available here. https://nostrgraph.net/dashboard
Can set you up for access, as closed beta atm.
Past 24 hours

Youāre all setup. I noticed I donāt process your recent following change data as you follow > 1200 pubkeys. Otherwise looks good.
Thanks. Youāve got access setup Cameri.
Iām still exploring areas like āwhat is engagement?ā. Is it direct, basically like notifications in response to your content only, or does it stem off into downstream for content you created?
And it can be hard to handle things like the hell thread. Is that really engagement? The initial event was never found, yet you were tagged in it with a p-tag.
Nostr is an imperfect network, so perhaps we grow to accept stats and data are directional and relative, as opposed to exact and precise. Itās an interesting thing to ponder.
Iād suspect itās likely a mix of less reliable network and app being killed in background before wide sending, resulting in less successful publishing.
Depends how they accept the events, as it will match a paying users pubkey - if they pay.
If they rely on AUTH, that isnāt implemented in the app atm.
Many paid relays sync anyway from other major relays, so itās very likely to spread anyway.
Even with top 150, likely 30% fail anyway - as relays are not that stable at present.
#[4]ā do you have the same problem on wifi?
Added your feedback to the cannot post on damus issue: https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/978#issuecomment-1516585143
I donāt have regular access to wifi at present. Been living with mobile data only. Iāll have wifi again in a week or so.
I donāt think itās ever not sent, since the initial post draft feature and another queue/wait for OK fix went into place. However, atm I have 15 relays, and Iāve not seen an event broadcast to all 15 many times - however with better mobile reception, itās been more reliable.
I update the Nostr Event Deletion webapp. It now has a FAQ explaining itās best effort, and also a load Top 150 relays feature, for mass broadcasting.
Even if deletion is best effort, suppressing broadcasting the event by relays for new requests still can have some advantage to nothing. Plus it gives the lawmakers a tool to meet their requirements.

I literally thought he was until a few months ago. But then I realised he was just a š¤”
Yep⦠when I started to purge all the spam, I had so much it caused table locks and all sort of crap.
I ended up having to process it in batches. And now it works great.
How many OK replies does Damus accepted before itās marked as ok? Itās possible less fewer or less important relays are returning OK, making it less visible in the network.
I have bad reception and often wonder if my messages were published widely successfully. I sometimes rebroadcast when I think it didnāt likely publish to more than a couple relays.
Iāve built a lot of smaller projects too and there is definitely a lot to learn and take from each project.
Itās really valuable to try build a few different things and from different angles - like a relay, a client, a web service, a bot, managing DMs, managing queries, Lightning, complexities of different event kinds, etc.
Definitely recommend the approach for other Nostr devs.
Yep. Thatās my friends challenge. Customers are less eager to pay via Bitcoin, or he would swap.
That and easy/simple Bitcoin subscriptions donāt really exist yet. Maybe lightning bolt 12 helps to solve that.
Itās crazy. PayPal and Western Union should perish by 2030.
I have a friend who uses them for a subscription business. And he fears the day they freeze him for no reason.
You can get PayPal loans based on a % of active subscriptions value. Like a payday loan. No doubt zero regulation somehow again - they know moving your customers subscriptions to any other method will be extremely painful. They have full power.
Same thing happened to a new startup company I ran over 12 years ago. PayPal froze two+ months of revenue. No reason given. Canāt remember if we got it back.. but it was very hard at the time.
PayPal wonāt change. Iāve never used them again for custodial and avoided all transactions where possible.
To this day I donāt understand how they get away without being a bank, with all other associated regulations. They have less heat than Bitcoin. Certainly corruption at play here⦠no other way.
Iāve been a supporter of this too. Whenever your financial routing changes, knowing about it ASAP is critical. Itās also feedback a change you made has been registered.
Good news is streaming updates are working. It means the engagement graphs wonāt be 24 hours behind and I can easily scale the processing as events and people with access grow.
Dashboards donāt refresh automatically or stream the new data, however itās an obvious next iteration.
