Visiting my brother a few towns over. It’s him and 2 other single dudes renting from him. None of them seem to know how to keep a kitchen clean, and not fruit to be found 😭
Luckily I had the foresight to stop by a local butcher shop for some sausage and eggs. The sausage is Alberta wagu, and the eggs are from a local farm. The coffee is…just okay. Should have brought him some fresh roasted.
I can’t complain too loudly though as I spent most of my adult life single and living alone, and my kitchens looked a lot worse 😅
*screeches*
*soul melts*
My bank sent me an email advising international money transfers. Clearly they’ve never used #Bitcoin

Yesterday’s event went too well. The feedback I got was that it was fantastic and they want day 2 to be the same but even better.
The problem with that is that I came home utterly exhausted, braindead, and out of ideas. Day 2 is going to be a slog, and I’m guessing also a disappointment for the attendees (who are also my coworkers). Yesterday was the “party”, today is the work.
This is one of the many reasons I’ve downgraded how I describe my fiat mine from “day-job” to “side hustle”. Would it feel more tolerable if they were paying me in bitcoin? Maybe, but I’d still leave for another (better) opportunity if I found one.

Yesterday, 30mins before office close, the professional facilitator my fiat mine had hired for a 2 day all-staff planning and review event that starts today cancelled.
In a panic the staff handling logistics for the event phoned me (the IT manager) and asked if I would fill in. With almost no notice. And no material. And no experience with this sort of event.
I gave them my standard disclaimer. “I’ll do it, but I can’t guarantee you’ll like the results.” They accepted. I should have asked to be paid in bitcoin 🤦♂️
I was hoping to be able to set up a LNURL for receiving zaps without involving a third party, but it seems that isn't possible yet. I guess it's Alby for now.
But there may be hope yet! Rumour has it a publicly accessible BTCpay Server with a clearnet domain can generate LNURLs that work with Nostr. So I now have another reason to get my kludgey BTCpay Server working. My goal for that is still to run it on a VPS and have it talk to my full node at home (instead of it's own dedicated node).
Once I have fiber either at my home or my fiat mine I'll migrate it to some bare metal there and run it as intended (on the same machine/VM as a full node).
I can’t seem to get a working LNURL to stick 😭 Project for this evening.
GM round 2 #coffeechain. I’ve been awake for 4 hours already, which means I’m legally allowed to have another, right? 😅
Spent some time testing Snort (on my local Umbrel) as a PWA on my iPad. Short version: no workie. To log in, Snort needs either a key manager extension (IOS/iPadOS Safari doesn’t support extensions in PWA mode), or SSL (Umbrel doesn’t have a native SSL option). Start9 has a native option for self-signed SSL (you have to manually add the trust to your iDevices), so if you’re using them for your local Snort that might work.
My current solution is Snort bookmarked in regular Safari and the Nostore extension holding the keys.
My preference would be for both Umbrel and Start9 to add the option for automatically renewing LetsEncrypt certificates. This would solve a bunch of problems. Umbrel has a long-standing open ticket for SSL support, but it looks like it’s mostly being ignored. Medium-term I’d like to buy another box to test Start9 with and see if I can hack in LetsEncrypt support, but they could absolutely steal Umbrel’s lunch by adding it as a normal feature 👀
GM #coffeechain. I woke up at 3:30am and immediately started thinking #bitcoin thoughts, which of course meant I couldn’t get back to sleep 😅 Didn’t want to wake wifey up with the noisy grinder, so hand grinder and moka pot was the method today. Missing my brother a bit so rocking the d20 dragon mug from him.
(Side note, this will also be a test to see if Nostr / Damus natively support gifs. If it works the steam above the mug should be moving.)
I spent a bunch of time trying to get a BTCpay Server install on a VPS talking to my locally hosted full node.
It seems this isn't a supported setup; BTCpay Server is meant to run on the same machine/VM as a full node. Of course Voltage and LunaNode are much easier options, but I'd prefer to use my own node, and I'd rather not expose a BTCpay Server to the internet off my home connection. I want to have my cake and eat it too!
My next attempt will be to use Tailscale to connect the VPS and my home node. Hopefully it can trick BTCpay Server into thinking the full node is on the same machine since bitcoin.custom.yml asks for the URL of the node.
This is the way. If Damus keeps running into problems I might have to switch to this on my iPhone as well, though it’s slightly less convenient if I don’t want to expose my self-hosted Snort to clearnet.
gm #coffeechain, I’m of to the fiat mines again after taking a week off to go to #bitcoinrodeo in Calgary. May the chaos be minimal and the emails be deletable.
They can’t stop us!
Thanks to npub1vp8fdcyejd4pqjyrjk9sgz68vuhq7pyvnzk8j0ehlljvwgp8n6eqsrnpsw for making notazap.lol
I figured it out! The 🔁 button wasn’t working for me and I incorrectly assumed it was either broken or not implemented yet. After an app restart it worked and I got the menu that includes quoting:
Nope, that didn’t work 😅
Testing quoting:
note1j4s7z5lre6dnu3y92p9c9k70tqsjdvh7ajyw6yqh5pk2mp0d34hs6qgh0q
Silly question: How do you quote a post like this? I’ve tried pasting the ID for the note I want to quote, but it doesn’t seem to do anything…
This. Part of the point of zaps is to show them on the note; if Zapple Pay sends them to the profile instead they loose half of their purpose.
My current workaround is to zap posts at the end of the day from home on Snort.
I hesitated because I thought “what are the chances there’s actually other Bitcoiners in *my* area; I live in the middle of nowhere.” Turns out there is! Excited to attempt running a meetup to see if we can locate others and get them connected.
