Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities. I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.

omg. I made it 30 seconds in and am already depressed.

Sometimes it's hard to balance -

needing to know stuff becuase it informs our decisions

vs

not following the alarming things that I have no control over

oh, so as a colony? (Have you been listening to TSP 😂)

I really wanted to do colony raising but decided against it for a few reasons.

Here's what we have working nicely right now:

cages hang in the chicken run inside the overhang of the coop (so they're all in shade). The droppings fall to the ground and I add wood shavings regularly (plan to replace that with charcoal soon). The chickens dig around in it and every week or so I half-fill a five gallon bucket of the mix to put around a tree or in a new planting.

We have two large containers of duckweed - for the chickens and for the BSF - that we've placed so they get just a bit of the manure for fertility. Also we sometimes add some of the rabbit droppings to the BSF bin and to our red wiggler bin (both also under the overhang of the chicken coop).

I'm planting a ton of rabbit fodder and chicken food inside the run so that we can feed them as much as possible from the immediate area. May also add fish soon, though I'm not yet sure how.

If you're planning on a colony set up I don't know if any of that is of interest! You're probably well aware but you'll have to protect fodder trees from free-ranging rabbits. One of our tractor rabbits escaped and neatly de-barked one of our new fodder willows.

ooh. That sounds terrifying. I had some thoughts about rabbits in the chicken run when I read the first part of your note, but maybe this isn't the time!

Sending a hug 🫂

To understand what happened you need to have some knowledge of the pacing of speed skating in a 1500m. Nobody is going flat out as fast as they can all race, so like most distance events it’s about managing the pack and then sprinting all out in the final six laps of the race.

The gun goes off, everything looks methodical and normal, before Yang decides to blow past everyone at full speed. She takes the outside so quickly the pack elects not to try and keep up with her, so they hang back. Now, we’ve seen skaters go all-out before, but normally they burn out and are gassed before the race picks up.

What Yang did instead was choose to just lap everyone, then rejoin the pack in the back and match their slow pace. Call it the pressure of the moment, a disruption to the typical order of the sport, or just a brain fart — but seemingly the rest of the field totally forgot that Yang had lapped them. To make things even more confusing, officials called out the laps remaining based off Yang as the skater in first, not the pack.

So, when they called “three laps remaining” everyone but Yang had four. When they announced “final lap” it only applied to Yang. Staying in the back in first place not only meant she won when everyone else thought they were done, but her teammate Li Jinzi knew that Yang was a lap ahead, so she easily overtook the pack on their final lap to bring home silver.

This is one of the most baller moves a speed skater has ever pulled off, and it’s incredible that it worked.

pretty cool!

That's what we're doing on here! I think it's pretty much all we can do - keep building what we want to see.

Colony Rabbits and Integrated Systems – Epi-3533

Today I am joined by nostr:npub1f5pre6wl6ad87vr4hr5wppqq30sh58m4p33mthnjreh03qadcajs7gwt3z who is a long time show listener that I met via Nostr. Karl raises rabbits as part of his integrated systems approach on his homestead in a colony fashion with amazing systems function stacking.

Can't wait to listen to this!

We're gradually building systems around our rabbits and it's always cool to hear new ideas. Also nostr:npub1f5pre6wl6ad87vr4hr5wppqq30sh58m4p33mthnjreh03qadcajs7gwt3z + nostr:npub15879mltlln6k8jy32k6xvagmtqx3zhsndchcey8gjyectwldk88sq5kv0n 🤩

Unfortunately wherever it leads, we're well on our way because we/them is used by pretty much everybody 😔

Danny and I just wrapped up the final episode of What Bitcoin Did at Bitcoin Park, recording with some of our closest friends in #bitcoin - nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle , nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx and nostr:npub10cxz2h7n6rumfpuf49zt4uvm7skzqk5u25vesp0tzdtnkvsnwjyqaffcj3, along with special appearances, including my son.

The episode will be released on August 30th. After that, we'll take a week off before launching our new show (the worst-kept secret).

After 7 years, 860 podcasts, countless flights, and visiting about 40 countries, the time is right. Time is precious. I need to travel less and focus on Bedford, the football team, family and bringing to life everything we've discussed over the past 7 years.

I believe we're entering a new era where #bitcoin is a legitimate part of every conversation. Our new show will reflect this, so we’re building a studio in London and evolving the format where #bitcoin is the heartbeat not the headline.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this. I couldn’t have done any of this without the kindness and generosity of so many of you, especially nostr:npub16le69k9hwapnjfhz89wnzkvf96z8n6r34qqwgq0sglas3tgh7v4sp9ffxj .

I'm humbled by it all and everyone of you.

Big love ✌🏻

Peter and nostr:npub16le69k9hwapnjfhz89wnzkvf96z8n6r34qqwgq0sglas3tgh7v4sp9ffxj thank you so much for so many great interviews and episodes!

☹️

It's always incredible how a government that can't afford much of anything has no trouble coming up with funding to attack citizens.

ooh this is so bad.

it's not just that inflation + unrealized gains is an incredible grift, and not just that those people are screwed out of so much of their pension $

It's that it will become acceptable for the state to take part of what's yours even if you don't sell it.

I used to be political, no longer. I'm trying NOT to follow it at all but when I do, it's with a combination of alarm and amusement.

A lot of the alarm is coming from watching the media narrative. Holy shit. Absurdly manipulative, turning on a dime - even when it means 180 from a few days before - and pretty much in unison. It's insane.
