and it wasnt legal to own gold again until 1974, well after 1971 when Nixon "temporarily" suspended the last limited convertibility of the US dollar to gold

I dont think they will do another outright confiscation, I expect they will try to bifurcate the network into kyc coins vs freedom coins and ban freedom coins from regulated exchanges. Fortunately #bitcoin transcends petty dictators and freedom coin will eat kyc coin's lunch.

working on uping my #rust 🦀 game! can recommend this ebook with a list of pro tips: https://effective-rust.com/cover.html

📢 BDK 1.0.0-alpha.6 done! This small bi-weekly release fixes TxBuilder to support setting explicit nSequence for foreign inputs and a bug in tx_graph::ChangeSet::is_empty where is returns true even when it wasn't empty 🙈. We also added a new option for Esplora APIs to include floating TxOuts in updates for fee calculations. See all the details here: https://github.com/bitcoindevkit/bdk/releases/tag/v1.0.0-alpha.6

I enjoy perusing https://www.cheapoldhouses.com/latestlistings/ to see what beautiful old mansions in less desirable locations, without the monetary premium cost.

Regarding Chinese real estate problems.. here's a related story closer to home: "...one of the biggest real estate development projects in downtown Los Angeles, was halted five years ago when its Beijing-based developer ran out of money" also note the vandals who tagged the place up were "cited and release" and "no arrests were made".. charming. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-02-01/taggers-graffiti-more-than-25-stories-of-dtla-skyscraper-across-from-the-grammys-red-carpet

📢 BDK 1.0.0-alpha.5 is out! This release introduces a block-by-block API to bdk::Wallet & adds a RPC wallet example, improves performance of bdk_file_store::EntryIter, and simplifies Esplora::update_local_chain with additional tests. See all the changes in the release notes: https://github.com/bitcoindevkit/bdk/releases/tag/v1.0.0-alpha.5

Thanks! Even with nostr:npub19fyrjpsq87r62086pna2u69x39mtxryl5y44vnegucyrd3lhchjsqxd5hk connectivity is limited but here’s the first dynasty “Namer Palette” c3000 BC! (In dusty old Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo) and one of first step pyramids, 3rd dynasty, plus burial chamber underneath, near Abu Sir.

Was visiting the temples at Karnak today. So thoughts were Roman Empire adjacent.

You’re probably right that people will need to check their expectations. But I still think we’re in very early days. Even with ETFs and all the media attention there’s so much work that needs to be done to make owning and using bitcoin as ubiquitous as something like cell phones or the internet.

BDK 1.0.0-alpha3 is out! LocalChain now has a hard-wired genesis block, Wallet TxBuilder has new errors, and the project MSRV is now 1.63. Also included are plenty of API and docs improvements and bug fixes, see the changelog for all the details. https://github.com/bitcoindevkit/bdk/releases/tag/v1.0.0-alpha.3

Yup I’m sure you’re right that there is plenty of low hanging fruit out there, but it might be hard to find. If you some web skills I’m sure most open source #bitcoin projects could use help creating or updating their pages. Or even putting the infrastructure in place to help others translate popular project sites. Good luck in your journey!
