The ICCF to which it refers is the International Child Care Fund Holland, which Moolenaar founded after visiting Uganda to do voluntary work in 1993. He continued to act as the organization's treasurer for the rest of his life. In addition to the ICCF, any income which he received as sponsorship for development of Vim went to the charity as well.

The charity supports a school for AIDS orphans at the Kibaale Community Centre in southern Uganda, not far from Lake Victoria. Moolenaar worked on the school's water supply system, and even moved to Uganda for a year, during which time he worked on Vim on a purpose-bought laptop powered by a car battery. The ICCF sends some 99.5 percent of its income to Kibaale. As the ICCF page about the school says: KCC works from a Christian base. Help is given to children of any religion.

Aside from the centralisation vs decentralisation debate as applied to business I think IBM/Fujitsu/Oracle and a few others will be there for a very long time chugging away in big businesses and banks, because a lot of what they do is esoteric enough that there isn't huge financial incentive to develop distributed alternatives. Plus the physical boxes + services are a tiny fraction of their clients revenues despite being £1m++ affairs. I don't want to Google distributed COBOL. The idea of it is appalling. Despite the Ford Model T there are still Rolls Royces and Bentleys. Although maybe a better comparison is the Ford Model T (data/compute services) to combine harvesters (big mainframes doing specific tasks). It's always interesting times.

I am glad I have Netflix. It's not awful. It can be a bit like it ran ChatGPT on itself. There has always been an entertainment industry culture of making variations of what is successful because it makes sense. But does make it difficult to filter the very good stuff, when it's hiding amongst copious medium good stuff. Amazon Video seem better in that regard because shows like Deadloch and The Peripheral are things in themselves plus there are loads of b-movies, some of which are notable for a variety of reasons (for instance The Show - a cult film https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9165824/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_11_act and Space Truckers - so bad it's bad yet I watched the whole thing agog at its "this is a tax loophole film, surely" vibe). Netflix is like "hunt for the good post-apocalyptic drama" or "another show with people with X supernatural abilities". Physical 100 was good/mesmerizing though.

The Cloud is a bullshit marketing term for distributed computing and data storage, that already existed but has grown beyond all recognition. It's very lucrative. I'm fine with the phrase but it's clever** rebranding.

A potential workaround is N randomly generated characters . So the screen prompts typing in those random characters and asks the user to insert password letters at random intervals. tr#fdawdftjs (in that case the password was farts and the random stream/intervals were generated by the noises in my head). There are attacks on this based on repetition, potential sound differences in chosen letters, and bad or compromised RNGs. The ratio of noise to filler matters.
