The statement below is from Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall.
“If you don’t invest, if you’re not strong, they treat you like children,” he told the Financial Times. “It was very convenient for Europeans over the last 30 years to say, OK, spending 1 percent (of GDP on defense) is fine.”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced yesterday, the creation of a new directorate within the Ministry of Defense, which would oversee and enable the “Voluntary Departure” of Palestinians wanting to the leave the Gaza Strip for other countries across the world, per the plan revealed recently by U.S. President Trump.

The Lebanese Army deployed to several Towns and Communities in Southern Lebanon last night, following the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Force. The IDF carried out a Full-Withdrawal overnight from the Towns of Aabbasiyyeh, Majidieh, Kafr Kila, Marjaayoun, Odaisseh, Markaba, Houla, Mays al-Jabal, Blida, Mahbib, Maroun al-Ras, Yaron, Bint Jbeil as well as several others near the Lebanon-Israel Border, in compliance of the Ceasefire and observed by the U.S-led Supervision Committee and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
A Delegation from the American Embassy in Cairo, which included Senior U.S. Defense Official & Defense Attaché to Egypt, Colonel David M. Kobs, visited the Egyptian-side of the Rafah Border Crossing with the Gaza Strip this morning, alongside other U.S. and Egyptian Officials.

As this week’s Summit in Riyadh between U.S and Russian Officials approaches, European Officials who spoke to the Financial Times believe that U.S. President Donald J. Trump is likely to agree to a withdrawal of American Forces from the Baltic States and other Countries in Eastern Europe, in exchange for ending the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
In Saudi Arabia, negotiations between the U.S. and Russia, which lasted 4.5 hours, have concluded.
Bloomberg reports that the delegations may have discussed a possible meeting between Trump and Putin as early as next week.
However, the Russian representative, Ushakov, stated that "it is difficult to name a specific date for the Putin-Trump meeting at this time," and it is unlikely to take place next week. According to him, the talks "went quite well," and Moscow and Washington have supposedly "agreed to take each other's interests into account."
The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, who is part of the Russian delegation sent to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for talks with the U.S., has said that he has already met with people in the U.S. delegation. No word on what exactly was discussed outside of increased economic cooperation between the U.S. and Russia.
Given Dmitriev’s position, it’s highly likely that the topic of direct U.S. sanctions on the RDIF and adjacent financial matters affected by U.S. sanctions was at least touched on during his meeting with U.S. decision-makers.

According to Kaitlyn Collins, citing an unnamed senior official in the Trump administration, Russia will release Kalob Wayne Byers, an American who has been detained for around a week. Byers was detained for allegedly having marijuana-laced marmalade and/or gummies at an airport in Moscow on February 7. His release, not yet known to be part of any exchange, could be seen as an attempt by Russian decision-makers to soften the tone of the now imminent Russo-American negotiations on the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War in Saudi Arabia.

No deaths among 80 aboard Delta jet that crashed in Toronto and 17 have relatively minor injuries, airport official says
Lots of confusion and disinformation concerning the deployment of 11 Green Berets from the U.S. Army’s 7th Special Forces Group to Mexico to cross train with the Mexican Navy’s (SEMAR) Special Operations Forces. The U.S. operators, who arrived today, are in Mexico to train Mexican Naval Special Forces at the Specialized Training Center of the Marine Infantry in San Luis Carpizo, Campeche until March 30, 2025. All reports that these units are in Mexico to actively fight the cartel are false. Additionally, bilateral military cooperation between Mexico and the U.S. is extremely common and such training exchanges take place rather often.

After yesterday’s debate between the four main candidates for Chancellor in Germany, polls place the CDU/CSU at 30% of the vote, followed by the AfD with 22%, the SPD of Olaf Scholz in third with 15%, and the Greens close behind with 13%.
If this trend is confirmed, the CDU, led by Friedrich Merz, is expected to emerge victorious. In terms of defense policy, Merz supports sending long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, something Scholz has consistently refused to do.
The AfD, a party considered “far-right” in Germany and led by Alice Weidel, is projected to take second place according to this poll. Weidel advocates ending sanctions on Russia, resuming purchases of Russian gas, and halting all German military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine’s defense.
Despite polling lower than in January 2024, the AfD has made significant gains in recent months, largely due to strong support from Elon Musk and members of the Trump administration, particularly U.S. Vice President JD Vance. Many believe that if this momentum continues, the party could perform even better than expected in the elections.
Due to her stance on ending support for Ukraine and fostering closer ties with Russia, Weidel is also the Kremlin’s preferred candidate. Alexander Dugin, known as “Putin’s ideologue,” has urged Germans to vote for the AfD.
The clear loser in this scenario is Olaf Scholz, widely seen as a weak Chancellor lacking decisiveness in both domestic and foreign affairs.
Germany’s elections will take place next Sunday, February 23.

"What is at stake is not just the future of Ukraine, but an existential issue for all of Europe.
(...)
Only a lasting peace in Ukraine, one that protects its sovereignty, will prevent Putin from future aggressions.
(...)
At this moment, we must recognize the new era,
NOT CLING TO THE COMFORTS OF THE PAST.
It is time for us to take responsibility for our security, for our continent."

The headquarters of the broadcaster “BBC” was attacked by the pro-Palestine group “Palestine Action” on the morning of Monday (17).
Windows were shattered, and the building was sprayed with “blood-red” paint in protest against the broadcaster’s alleged pro-Israel bias.
In a statement on Monday, the group said: “The BBC’s biased reporting is not just a case of bad journalism – it is a matter of life and death.” https://video.nostr.build/995cf39dc89b8f6ad1d5e2324048a114773c6a9cf534c5b0b4f5381336699498.mp4
