When money keeps degrading in value, there is a strong incentive to hold other things that have greater scarcity, and thus to add a monetary premium to those things above and beyond the utility value of those things.
This is a problem when things of utility get monetized to problematic levels, for example:
- Real estate: Middle and working class gets crowded out from having access to affordable shelter
- Equity of large publicity traded companies: Gives them a lower cost of equity capital and thus gives them a structural advantage over smaller private businesses
