I am a TikTok refugee trying to make things work here. I miss it but deactivated my account before it shut down yesterday. Even with Trump saving it it's gonna be different and not worth it to stay 😭

As a TikTok refugee, the govt wasn't controlling the message there. It's why a lot of youth became passionately pro-palestine. There were tons of organized boycotts. The deep irony is that it was one of the few left leaning platforms and democrats still couldn't make it useful to them. They were too stupid to see how much they just destroyed their best chances of connecting with a lot of the younger generations.

I will miss it a lot. The vibes were nicer than most social media. It was fun learning no-buy tips and building a cottage core life. But also it's changed a lot since the ban bill was passed and I am accepting that chapter of life is done. SIGH.

Yea earlier today there were rumors they were cutting things several hours ago, then they backpedaled. It felt like they were trying to heighten drama to maximize users on the app in the last day. I finally just deactivated my account. Even if it is saved it won't be the same anyways. I don't want the yoyo drama. I loved TikTok because it was a happy and undramatic during the pandemic. Another thing will come and in the meantime I have many books.

I'm having some big feelings about the TikTok ban. It was such a lovely algorithm. It was so nice to mindlessly see happy things, inspiring stories, and of course unhinged chisme. It really saved my mental health during the pandemic. I'm happy to have Nostr as an excellent replacement option. But I think for a period of time I'm going to channel a Spartan vibe and focus on discipline and self development. Read all these books I bought (reading and book collection are distinct hobbies). Become really good at meditating which I am hoping makes me telepathic/super powered? (I'm pretty sure that's how it works.) Apply to and get a phenomenal research economist position. Move to a wonderful home with a big sunny garden where I can grow tomatoes once again. I will bake and have a lot of loved ones to bake for! Life is really wonderful and I feel very lucky. Some things end and that's ok. Some things change and that's ok. Walking through life with faith and love is what's important!

What open platforms do you use?

I don't know, his administration did some crafty things to boost the economy report numbers. Like the large scale release of the SPR to help energy prices, that was an irresponsible move and now we won't have that tool if we need it in case of war. Numbers were goosed in other ways too. There's a reason people are feeling such a vibecession. He's not the worst, but the best is a stretch.
