Great question!
I ended up pretty much using Umbrel on the RPi4 to experiment to see how well it ran - once I decided to upgrade, I swapped to trying Start9, and I pretty much just started over on it since itโs a separate system from Umbrel. But I do plan on transferring what I can from it to the new proxmox/debian based system I plan on setting up for it.
Iโve heard of mynode, but I started messing around with Start9 and Umbrel late last year/early this year - theyโre definitely worth experimenting with, and certainly worth repurposing an RPi4 for something a bit more stable. Umbrel on my RPi4 kept crashing which sparked all of these OS questions and mini PC journey lol.
Hope youโre able to swap that RPi4!

Beelink S12 - I tried 2 different models of another brand but that one didnโt work.
Did some research and decided to try it off this list cause the price point was reasonable for the power - under the Beelink section:
I havenโt heard of proxmox, but in the midst of building a slim homelab - Iโm definitely going to look into it. Iโve been wanting to try more reliable virtualization but havenโt had the time to dive in.
Thanks again for this starting point, itโs really a big help. Canโt wait to tinker.
My stack is Debian.

I suggest a Debian base + proxmox install. Then virtualize ubuntu if needed/wanted.
Very cool. Debian seems to be the one Iโm gonna go with.
Tyvm! ๐ค๐ซ
Tyvm! That was my initial impression, so I think I will give Debian a try. Iโve been really curious about it but really never had a reason to play with it since I had Ubuntu machines. Good to know thereโs no steep learning curve.
Ty again!
OR -
- would running Debian or Ubuntu in a VM on Win11 OS be a more ideal solution?
Iโm more familiar with Ubuntu, but Iโve read up on Debian being more FOSS leaning.

Only criteria is reposting or commenting the post in question to receive the zap split that is.
You donโt - itโs a pretty neat automatic zap-split service for the community people sometimes do.
