If you've ever seen video of one of those nightmare plague hoard roach infestations how do you think that happens? Well you have a dirty chaotic place with excellent food & water sources. This alone isn't enough. Such a gross environment would attract a whole ecosystem of critters. Not just all roaches.
No, what happens next is spraying. Killing everything. But no spray lasts forever and roaches are best adapted to move back in first. They have not competition: welcome to the nightmare.

Every environment has a "bug biomass load" that load could be a diverse collection of species or it could be all American Roaches. It's up to you!
If you use general poisons you are killing the ants, the isopods, the beetles, the flies, the spiders, the centipedes.
Most spray poisons aren't targeted. They have to be extra strong to kill the poison adapted Roach.
Baits are better, not ideal.
A basement w/ spiders, centipedes & ants will not be a welcome place for roaches.
