Hello World!

Not my first post but just joined Nostr yesterday after reading a post from Derek Ross. New to social media, never used Twitter and still learning the nuts and bolts of how this all works. Hope I can contribute a little to grow the network in the future.

yeah,it's an interesting theory but also heavily disputed. I'm myself not sure what to think about it. but given that nobody really understands consciousness and how it arises, it is a unique way to think about it. I'm at least doubtful that consciousness is just a matter of scaling up connectivity aka that assuming a large enough increase in computing power, consciousness will suddenly spring into existence by itself - a fiat consciousness so to speak.

not only in the U.S. I remember this bad boy too

I went into neuroscience because I wanted to understand why we are the way we are. Especially if and how Intelligence and Consciousness are inter-related. With the recent rise of AI and whether or not at some point in the future machines would become conscious, I was reminded of Roger Penrose's theory of the mind,in particular that consciousness was not only a algorithmic function but that quantum superposition is a contributing factor. Could it happen that AI can become hyper-intelligent but will forever remain "non-conscious"? What would be the implications of such a new form of intelligence?

An interesting review about this: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnmol.2022.869935/full:

thanks. have not been a social media person so far but will try to contribute to support Nostr. Just have to figure out how stuff is working here.

indeed....I'm still figuring out stuff here and just wanted to zap you as a test. For setting up the wallet i wanted to use my nostrplebs address but now don't know how I can actually access it (the activation code was send to it). Could you please let me know how I can read my nostrplebs"inbox" ? (I also just sent you a DM with the same question, sorry for mixing stuff, still trying to figure out how the whole nostr-infrastructure works)

wonder how many iterations of bad people in charge an otherwise good system can survive? Can one bad president or chancellor bring everything down or is it a slower process?
