If I send a single 1 sat zap on Nostr, what are the tax implications of that single zap? Even if we assume a cost basis of $0, the gain would be far less than a $1 so do we even have to technically report it? Or do we report it with a gain rounded down to $0?

Now let's assume I've sent 10000 zaps, 1 sat each...what are the tax implications of those? Does each one individually round down to a $0 gain like in the original example, or are we supposed to take the sub-penny gains in aggregate and then round to the nearest dollar?

I can go to the same shop everyday & buy a latte with cash. Eventually every barista who works there knows me. I could go once & they will likely remember me to some capacity. It would be a lot of work to truly buy a coffee anonymously with cash... depending on what is really considered anonymous I suppose.

But I do see plenty of use cases for all zap types, including public. I'd love to see all of them supported everywhere... Private just seems most like a real-world common exchange. Like you said, for goods & services... but zaps also provide an expression of value to extend into a wide variety of things. I want the memer to know I was entertained or the artist to know I was moved. I don't want someone to know I just contributed to their crowdfunded vet bill. I want everyone to know that I paid the bet I lost. The latter 2 examples being likely less frequent in my world. That's why I chose private. 😊
