Just my two sats but instead of putting a lot of funds into a medical/dental account that’s just going to decrease over time just put those funds into Bitcoin and when you need it most utilize it.

Mental model: an ecash mint with the purpose of processing payments for a specific service is an alternative to an accounting system.

The flow:

- user tops up balance (e.g. via Lightning)

- service provider (SP) issues ecash to user

- user pays ecash to SP for use of service

Imagine running an entire blockchain for a single application, a website, social network, VPN provider. That would enable interesting use cases but would be a huge waste of resources. With ecash, you can build these systems without blockchains. Lightweight, fast, and cheap.

That is why I'm advocating for businesses to explore these use cases as I see great potential in them, especially in the Bitcoin space. Not only does it guarantee privacy, but it's also easier and safer to build than to have user accounts, passwords, balances, transactions, etc.

Closed ecash systems also do not run into risk of being regulated as money transmission services for the same reason you don't have this issue when you use a BTCPayServer for selling a VPN, for example.

It's only the service provider who gets paid for its service.

I'll be focussing on these use cases as we're developing the Cashu protocol, which allows you to use ecash with Bitcoin.

The internet is as bad as it is partially because payments are so bad. Payments forced us to think in accounts and accounts forced us to be traceable.

You are a manufacturer of blinds for windows, and tinted windows for cars.

This is not the manufacture of something that harms people directly, or harms people if misused (you'd have a lot of trouble trying to kill someone with these products).

These products have a direct usage in aiding privacy and security (that the two are linked is apparently entirely unobvious to many in the general public when asked about the privacy issue, and apparently also unobvious to certain Dutch judges).

Once you sell the product, you have no further involvement. You may see a car with your tinted windows pass by on the road, but you can't stop that car, even if you somehow know that it is a bank robbery getaway in action. By their nature, your products make it more difficult for you to see if the actions occurring behind them is criminal or not criminal.

Finally, like literally every product on the planet that is *actually useful*, it IS useful in criminal activity. But as per the 4th paragraph, it is ALSO very useful in non criminal activity.

If you got this far in reading, I'd like to pose the question: how do we get the general public to understand or care that this is the case?

What is the ideal flow for buying on a decentralized exchange?

Ideally...

1. I visit a website. I don't need to download anything.

2. I click BUY or SELL

3. I see some options who to buy from and their asking prices

4. I have a clear understanding of how this thing works. Don't just tell me the payment method, but how that transaction looks like after I hit buy.

5. Sort by payment method

6. Guide me through the transaction or better yet, facilitate it automatically.

What does the dream flow look like?

1. Click buy. You are automatically offered the best deal with your preferred payment method (maybe you specified it earlier).

2. You are provided super simple step by step instructions to finish transaction.

Similar for sell side.

The issue I see with decentralized exchanges:

1. Have to download something

2. The whole thing looks way too complex

3. Not clear how it works

Compare to centralized exchange:

1. Click buy. Done.

See the difference?

I think if we are to improve the UX, we have to think grandma level and start from scratch. No trying to improve a complex trading platform, but really think from the basics. What will grandma need to know or click on and how will she feel about it?

You make it work for grandma. You make it work for everyone.

The issue I see with Bisq (I couldn't install it, got corrupt file) is that it looks like a literal stock trading platform. NOT for an average person. I'd say you have to strip it down to 10% basics to make it work for the average person, provided you do everything else well.

"Cisgender is a slur" has some real "people pointing out racist behavior are the real racists" energy to it.

That pod was great. I spent the better part of 2020 learning multi-sig because NVK said you should prepare for your stack to be 10x more valuable than it is today. It's pretty close to 10x more valuable today.

If we ever get to a world where we can use #bitcoin as currency (without cap.gains.tax), do you think it will be mostly due to:

a) people voting with their feet. Game theory plays out by countries like El Salvador becoming magnets for wealth.

b) black markets form, and as bloated governments collapse on themselves, they become the market

c) some other way
