Building coolr.chat and Hollow a long form Nostr reader/publisher application.

I had a revelation yesterday afternoon. I was going back over nip29 and trying to make sense of kind 10,11. They are described as "This is the basic unit of a microblog root text note sent to a group." and threaded version. This confused me, however after speaking with nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 I realized the more accurate meaning which as that kind 10/11 are meant to facilitate what we know as a forum. Wow! This is an amazing discovery to me. Not only does nip29 bring support for simple chat groups, but also groups which have threaded forum posts. I absolutely love this and am more excited about nip29 than ever before!

Today is gonna be an off day for me as I spend time with the family, but when I get back I will be integrating this forum functionality into Seer. Cheers everyone!

Hey Iโ€™m just glad they used Swift! However looks like UIKit to me. Iโ€™m doing all SwiftUI ๐Ÿ˜…

Cause the UI is almost identical?

Interesting, that's the first I've ever heard of it. Im not sure I would consider it identical. Seems to me the biggest similarity is the layout which seems very generic to most messaging apps.

My inspiration mostly comes from Apple's mail/iMessage and a smidge of telegram. ie: the patterned background in the message area ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Not even sure what Tinode is? ๐Ÿ˜…

Okay, Ive cleaned up the links a bit. now instead of keeping it within the message bubble, it will just append the links below the message.

Still some layout issues to work through, but link previews are working.

I need to figure out how to cache the preview data so it doesn't have to reload every time you scroll to it.

Working on handling images/videos/link's in Seer today.

With images, I'll put them inline, but with videos and link's, I will use Link Presentations framework that Apple provides. This allows me to generate rich links with image, icon and other metadata with no external api.

You can read about it here.

Gm Nostr! Letโ€™s go! ๐Ÿ™

You mean for the relay icon or the account icon?

In terms on the relay, I like having the url since you can't rely on the relay to always have an icon.

However, I could do like iMessage and have a compact sidebar view option. And only show icon for both.

Some progress on the sidebar. Added relay image and also an area for the currently selected account(key). Also Seer respects light/dark mode ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, for me I think it was less about the technical content and more interesting how Eric called him out and gave him the honest truth, but also didn't dismiss him where he thought there was potential. I think we need more discussions like these in many areas rather than just dismissing people outright.

This podcast with Terrance Howard and Eric Weinstein was really interesting.

Gm nostr! Letโ€™s get it!

Mastodon's drummer is so bad ass! Not to mention he's got a picture of Rodney Dangerfield and Fred Sanford on his kick drum!

Making progress even though it doesn't seem like it visually.

I've spent all morning figuring out how to make sure top toolbar items stay within their respective columns. The key here is that if you don't at least have one toolbar item in the far right column, then the center toolbar items spill over. Quite the qwirky behavior.

Also, nice to have built in emoji picker ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Onward!

Love this! Seer also has multi account and easy account switching.

Gm nostr! Letโ€™s go!

Iโ€™ve been on Twitter since 2009. Over the years Iโ€™ve mainly used it to discover interesting gamedev stuff, pixel artists, etc. normally I would bookmark or simply like things to keep a reference to them. I believe I will start the process of compiling this info and depart Twitter. Iโ€™m committed to Nostr and what better way to show that than focus all my attention here.

Yes I believe so because if you look at nip29 you can see it adds some of the basic building blocks like groups, group members, moderation kinds, etc. Seer aims to simply do group communication, so itโ€™s much easier to just subscribe to these specific kinds without having sift through all the other stuff.
