Solar is cool because it can be decentralized but only nuclear makes sense to fill the gaps.
With abundant nuclear energy, we could do so much. Imagine, we could do pyrolysis on natural gas, and get hydrogen gas and pure carbon in the form of carbon black or carbon nanotubes. No more natural gas reforming for hydrogen and partially burning coal for carbon black.
We use A LOT of carbon black, and in the absence of major battery innovations, hydrogen fuel cells make a lot of sense for cars.
We need to produce so much energy that we don’t even know what to do with it.
