That's pretty cool. Of course it's all fermentation, but I never would have thought to be able to start a ginger flavored drink with a flour based starter. I'll give it a try sometime. Thanks!
Of course, my wife made some sourdough tortillas for our tacos tonight so I may have to reconsider my recent note on the subject of favorite food. The tacos go nice with my latest batch of sourdough started ginger beer.

Sourdough started ginger beer? That sounds interesting. I've made ginger beer, but just use brewer's yeast. How do you start it with sourdough?
I grew up in Utah but my dad is from California, so when I moved out it was to northern California to live among extended family here.
There was a state wide, weekend long church function for the young singles that I didn't want to go to but everyone else was so I figured what the heck, and I caught a ride. My wife was about five months out from her divorce and didn't want to go either, but was supporting her sisters who were going.
Now, I'm basically deaf without hearing aids and was studying sign language so naturally when I arrived I wanted to find anyone else who is Deaf or using ASL, and I found them. My now wife was also just starting to learn ASL so she was there in that circle too. We got in line for dinner and started chatting, but got split up.
At the end of the night my ride was leaving but I made the excuse that I needed to go to the bathroom before the three hour drive, but I was looking for her too. She had left the building but came back in for some reason and was, coincidentally, right by the bathrooms. I found her, got her information, and after almost three and a half years of dating we got married, and now seven and a half years later we've added three more kids to the two she already had. Lots of divine intervention, but we fit each other so well, so we figure He knows what He's doing.

'When life hands you lemons', there's a variety of paths you can take. There's the usual 'make lemonade', but is that lemonade only for you, or are you starting a for-profit lemonade stand? What about baking a lemon meringue pie? You could slice it and let your kids lick it and enjoy the pucker face they get. You could just throw the lemons away. If you let them sit around long enough, they'll mold and rot.
What if, after squeezing the juice out of the lemons life handed to you, you plant the seeds and grow a few lemon trees? Then, after a few seasons, you harvest a whole bunch of lemons and grow your lemon empire.
Whoever said money doesn't grow on trees must never have had the lesson of the lemon.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We believe that Jesus Christ is the savior of all mankind, and the only way back to live with the Father.
I purchased one last year. I think I'm right on the edge of a zone that it's good to grow in, since I'm in the central valley of California. It's still small and I haven't seen any fruit yet. Thanks for sharing about them!
