Thinking about python, geospatial, forestry, and LiDAR in small-town Idaho.

Those of you who are running S9 space heaters… how have you typically configured your set-up? Temp ranges, fan settings, auto tuning? Braiins auto tuning seems to work really well, but needs to run for a few hours for each power setting. Makes it difficult to test a bunch.

Just went clean shaven for the first time in 6 years and broke Face ID 🤷‍♂️

Yes! One good example I’ve heard is that wallet of Satoshi could run a mint and it would be the same experience, but better privacy for the users.

Whoever is running the mint. My basic understanding is that the mint is effectively running a custodial lightning node with a cashu mint on top. The bitcoin funds sit in a lightning wallet and cashu tokens are generated and regenerated as they are used or redeemed. If a token is redeemed at a second mint, the second mint effectively requests a lightning payment from the first to redeem the tokens.

It’s like a lightning wallet that functions as a bank issuing redeemable, private IOUs

The primary trade-off is that mints are custodial by nature. If replacing a custodial service like a custodial lightning wallet then the benefits are huge!

This could be a good resource

Got it! Do you know if anyone is working on a zap equivalent for nuts? I remember seeing encrypted DMs being used, but it would be interesting to have a nut button on each post for feeless tipping!

So the payment is made to a lightning invoice via a cashu wallet? The person receiving is still just a lightning invoice yeah?

I’m confused… partially by the fees in the video. Is this just a lightning payment originating from the mint or is it actually moving the cashu tokens to the new user via nostr. It must be the first right?

Fun fact… when you don’t have the right adapter, zip ties work in a pinch

What happened? I’m slightly nervous about the electrical in our house and mining on it…

Another big o&g purchase… I spent the first 5 years of my career at Hess - sad to see that company disappear, but the writing has been on the wall for years

If it’s true that Jon Stewart was dropped by Apple for his China+AI takes (Apple reportedly wanted Jon to be more “aligned” with their view due to their Chinese economic overlords), I wonder what his next path is.

Retire with his “fuck you” money and maybe do a couple independent projects for fun? Or do a more independent/decentralized show?

I grew up watching Jon’s Daily Show. I don’t agree with all his past or present takes, but I always found him to be the best political jester- the one who could bring complex serious topics to a younger audience with humor. And right or wrong, speaking from his heart and logic rather than fully advertiser-captured or audience-captured.

Curious to see what he does next.

Can we get Jon Stewart on zap streams?

So how bad is this “replacement cycling” thing? Do we actually know yet? Anyone have any good reading?

Equipment arrived in great shape and works perfectly. Thank you nostr:npub1q4zl8v0cpeu0lv47msq2z0jpkr2q3wq5d4ukylxg9sx7t7rcz0uq5ftv7q !

So far I have replaced the PSU fan and tinkered with braiins.

Next steps: after a lot of research (mostly digesting others experiences and work) I opted to go for the 2x 140 mm noctua fan set-up over the more intense AC Infinity Cloudline S6. This was solely because of cost trade-offs and the fact that the S9 will be underclocked and not delivering much bitcoin anyway. I still need to explore adapter options for attaching these fans to the miner - there are some nice 3D models out there, but I don’t have a printer and shipping from a retailer makes these options more expensive.

If I ever do this with a more modern miner it would be a very different decision and an interesting path with equipment like the njord board by Pivotal Pleb Tech that opens the door to better cooling at a higher cost.
