Well that's not good. It looks like I won't be running the basement S9 tonight.

Did you get a little hot and heated there Derek 😳

Apparently.

Just pop into the firmware and cut a couple hundred watts off it.

Going to replace the outlet tomorrow and cut back to 600 watts. Normally I do 800 watts but that has me worried.

Check your breaker for an indication of how high you should go. I would be surprised if you couldn't handle the full power. Just need a beefier outlet.

it can handle the full 1420 watts. i ran it full bore for 4 months during the winter 3 years ago. also known as the winter i couldn't use my basement because it was loud and hot.

Since you know the breaker is 20 amps and the wire gauge is correct for the circuit, my unsolicited opinion is replace all the receptacles on the circuit with 20 Amp rated (NEMA 5-20R) ones. If you're running that 800w all the time, I'd recommend getting commercial grade receptacles, which you can purchase at any electrical wholesaler.

πŸ‘€ Almost that season where I fire up the basement S9 but this weekend heats up again.

Yeah, it's warming up here too. Because of that, I unplugged this S9 and noticed this when I did.

Could be low quality outlet? Do you underclock?

Yes. It's been plugged into that outlet for over two years running at 800 watts.

Was that the plug your s9 was placed in?

Thank God no fire Derek.

Yes. That's the outlet it's been plugged into for 2+ years.

Btc is πŸ”₯.

Oof though, that’s not cool!

What happened? I’m slightly nervous about the electrical in our house and mining on it…

I just unplugged it and noticed this.

😭 But where will the daily zap fund come from? 😈

Coward.

Fast easy replacement for a few dollars

Yep. Will do that tomorrow.

Uh, no. Don't just replace the outlet. You need to ascertain the wire Guage that is going to the outlet. That is the real limit of the circuit, no matter what the outlet or breaker are rated for. Please be safe. Electrical fires are just about the worst.

concur, and make sure the circuit breaker is appropriate for wire gauge.

20 gauge wire and 20 amp circuit.

dafuq? who put in 20 gauge. surprised the house didnt burn down

Well then maybe I'm wrong. This was just put in 9 years ago.

what color is the outer sheathing containing the wires

yellow. awg 12 cu 2 cdr with awg 12 ground 600 volts.

ok. suitable for 20 amp. just browning from prolonged use. buy and install a quality receptacle

Thank you. These receptacles are just Walmart cheapies. I'll replace with a better quality. Thank you again.

That was my 1st thought. Throw in some 12-2 and replace the outlet with an AFCI. GFCI is great but if the arc doesn't cause a ground the power will stay live.

Hell my house was built & wired pre building code & I have 12 gauge in the walls. No grounds though funny enough

Time for a GFI outlet πŸ˜‚

πŸ‘€ you don’t have a GFCI?

Not on these outlets, several others.

How is the S9 running on 110v?

It's designed to run at both 120 and 240.

White-out fixes this. #facts

so what happen "digital energy now as Saylor says" ;-) when layer -1 is down

lets fix it! AWG is more important

Lil' Sparky ⚑

In all seriousness that's a 10-15 min fix. Just but a new outlet rated for that circuit.
