Enthusiast of family, peace, Jesus, nature, permaculture, economics, bitcoin, anarchy, homesteading, off-grid living, learning and trying new things. I have been social-media-free for over a decade, but I believe in the potential of Nostr so jumping in.

Just got my friend using Nostr today. Doesnt have lighting set up yet. Give him a follow so he will follow you back!

Is it the purple on the stem that gives it away?

Chart I will be using for my biochar presentation in Bastrop next week at Exit and Build. This is very much about time preference like Bitcoin is.

So the orange is biochar only and the red biochar plus Nitrogen based fertilizer. Light green is control (nothing) dark green was wood chips and orange just fertilizer.

Thing to understand for context is that this is aspen woodlands not a farm or a garden. The biochar used here was field made in simple kilns not fully crushed and just spread.

Year one you'd of said why bother, the fertilizer clearly did best. Year two fertilizer is still in the lead. Year three wood chips are fertilizer are close to tied, biochar and control are still losing. But biochar without fertilizer is closing the gap.

Wait what in year four? Biochar and fertilizer takes the lead and plain biochar has come a long way but still in 4th place. Year five, biochar with nothing rules all and by a considerable margin.

This was a university study not a random observation. There is some context needed to understand what is really going on here. I will explain it at Exit and Build so even if you can't come register for the free online part here https://bit.ly/eb-2023

But the macro is clear this was a one time application. Biochar done right builds soil for centuries and even millennia. It is all about time preference. In gardens and on farms we can compensate in the early years so it is never a loss, but what we are really doing is building forever fertility across time.

If you are a bitcoin and really want to understand patterns, learn about #permaculture

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing here

Recently I have felt the need to refresh my buried #eaglescout knowledge of #knots. Could also be a good #homeschooling activity or just teaching practical #skillz.

Days of the New. They are a MUST LISTEN in my book. You will not regret it. They are another band that spoke to my soul so long ago and still remains at the top end of my list of greatest musicians. Travis Meeks was an absolute prodigy and a brilliantly gifted individual. We was writing these songs at 16 years old! Their albums and singles are all good. The Down Town is one of my favorites.

I was just talking with my wife the other day about my desire to find an app to identify birds by song. Thanks!

It's a little late for the actual set of holidays, but this is a cool #homeschooling project to do as a #family and a way to learn about #japan culture. Planning to do some with my son next week - what I bought below.
