Yes! I don't how how people can wear those things!
I did some spelunking with my wife today. The water is really moving at the hydro dam from the snow melt. Finally.

Those are some high falootin steps, all framed out and whatnot. π
The dirtymax is fueled up, Bertha is hanging off the nose, and I'm feeling a bit salty about the 22" snowfall forecast. I'm supposed to be prepping garden beds! I guess I'll get caught up on podcasts instead.

Brooder is done!
It isn't pretty, but it was free. Kind of a funky size too, but ya gotta work with what ya got.
I will miss my workbench for the next couple of months though.

I could have....
My wife has a pretty sweet remote work gig and I worked out a couple seasonal gigs. The housing price was the deciding factor though. 3 bed 1.5 bath 1800 foot duplex on about an acre for $74k vs a 950 foot fixer upper for $300k on Florida's gulf coast.
Seriously I pay less for two housing units here than we'd have paid on hoa fees down there.
That's also the motivation for the hoop house. I figure I can steal another three months of growing season. π
We have a couple of months on each side of the growing season in the 50s with a few cold snaps. We'll see if it works.
I'm really questioning my decision to leave Florida to move back home. This weather is terrible.
Beautiful! I'm still waiting for my asparagus bed to wake up.
Are you happy with the woodchip mulch? I had some woody compost I mulched my bed with last year, but haven't decided how I'll mulch this year.
#mythreethings
1. Build a new chicken brooder
2. Research Gothic arch hoop houses
3. Get my plow truck out of storage because the weather guesser is calling for 22 inches of wet βοΈ overnight.

My wife and daughter love the fluffy feet, but we learned the hard way that our winters are just too cold and wet for them.
GM Nostriches!
We have decided to increase the size of our flock. π I wanted to add 6 birds, and I wanted ameraucanas. Of course those are not available locally, so I had to order them. 6 is a dumb number of chicks to mail, so I went with a dozen. However, 12 chickens required a small order fee of $35, so it was cheaper to buy 15 chicks. Then at checkout we found that an order of 15 chicks qualified us for a free mystery chick π₯
And that's how a desire for 6 birds leads to ordering 16.

I have now completed 1,057 miles of a 1,602 mile journey. My mind is beginning to strain from a lack of bipedal stimulation. I have refueled with caffeine and petroleum, however, I fear it may not be enough. I pray I reach my destination before experiencing a complete lack of cognitive function. (I have begun singing raggae covers of '90's punk music.)
Seriously, how did I drive truck for 10 years? π€£

It's a strange stage of life, being excited to receive big piles of crap.
If you're having a hard time finding manure you could try hitting up smaller grocery stores for old produce. That could get a good pile going.
This one habit changed the course of my life. I highly recommend changing your economic perspective.
It would make a nice hat. See my tree pic to understand my stance. π€£
Excellent, and followed! I was thinking about sharing my plans for some of the outdoor things I'm building this summer.
